Update on your dds logs: (sorry it took so long, the logs are quite large and need to be looked through very carefully as it is easy to miss some things....)

This looks interesting! (from event viewer)

There are a few possible causes from this:

-You are using internet connection sharing
-Your dns cache needs wiped out. (but seeing at how this is done at every reboot, I doubt this is it)
-Your host file needs reset.
-Your network settings are configured wrong.

So I wold like you to do the following when you are done with the ubuntu stuff. (If you were not able to do that it is okay, just let me know)

1.) Reset your host file using this here: How can I reset the Hosts file back to the default? You can run the auto fix it from microsoft, or simply do the instructions listed on the page. (Please let me know what method you used.)

2.) Just for giggles, click :orb: type cmd. click the top result. A black box will appear. In the box, type this exactly with spaces:
Code:
ipconfig /flushdns
If done correctly, it will report that the dns resolved cache was successfully flushed. Type exit and hit enter. Or close out like normal.

3.) Do you have any hide my IP software or vpn software installed? (Didn't see any in the log but just making sure.) Using open dns or google dns maybe?

4.) Try your browsers reset functions again. Ie reset (deleting personal settings), firefox safe mode, etc. Report what happens.

Sorry post 61 is all in windows. Ubuntu does not need to be installed! Just run from the disk. It is only for testing with firefox and seeing if it can load pages just fine.

Yes I have used thsi many times

BOOTABLE UBUNTU

Make a bootable Ubuntu disk http://www.ubuntu.com/download

Set the BIOS to boot from theoptical when the machine boots it will show you a screen with TRY or INSTALL> select TRYnot INSTALL

When it is finished - it takes verylittle time you will get a screen like in the pic .

Open the drive you want > Userand dig down until you get to the data / settings you may be able to copy /paste the material you want to an external source or other installed drive doingthis.

I am not sure if it will but I haverecovered tons of data etc using this method both on "dead" or justplain drives that you cannot get data from using Windows.

Hmm maybe save them to a stick then plug it in when Windows is going at least you can back up data as long as the machine doesn't crash.

But I think that there is something else causing the crashes and to be honest the others like Andrew are better at that dump stuff.

Without reading right back through the thread you have tested the hard drive, GPU and RAM eh?

Panos,

I don't want to detract from the effort you and other members have made or are making on this issue, but after a week of hard investigation and attempts to provide a piece meal fix there is no solution.

I've been in this situation before (many times !) and eventually made the decision that it would be easiest to reinstall than to chase what is causing the issue.

A fresh install also allows me to have a faster cleaner machine. Many applications I had previously installed really weren't used enough to justify reinstalling them, or it provided the opportunity to update them.

Since you have an Asus and an Acer that exhibit the same symptoms, but not your GF's machine then I'd say it is isolated to your machines and not the router / modem.

If you decide to Clean re-install, don't add all of those apps at one time. Add only a few and see how the machine behaves for a few days. Then add a few more and again see how it behaves. This way, if you install a few apps and the symptoms reoccur, you have a smaller pool of suspect applications to investigate.

This of course is your decision to make.

Best of luck,

Bill

@slartybart
In all respect possible,
If ubuntu has the same issues I do not believe that a clean install will solve anything. No settings are shared from windows to ubuntu. Ubuntu is running off a live cd disk, and malware from windows will not run in ubuntu. So it rules out a software issue if the ubuntu disk firefox is crashing as well. This to me means it is a hardware issue of some kind.

@panos
I have a secondary Acer netbook which i connected to my wifi network...i see exactly the same crashes! The strange thing is my gf which is connected to same network from another laptop she never has such problems and even when her laptop is off i still continue have crashes.

Your computer that we are working on now, is that hardwired to the network? Ethernet cable? OR wifi?

You have another laptop on wifi with the same crashes, yet your GF who is also connected with their laptop to your router does not have any crashes-fails to load correct?

This is very odd.

What happens if you try firefox in ubuntu from the live cd on your laptop? Crashes-fails to load as well?

Do you have a modem and router all in one unit? Or do you have a router and modem as separate devices?

Here is my suggestion, Reset both the devices to factory default. You can call your Internet service provider with help on this if you bought the equipment from them.

If the reset does not work.....try buying a new router and new modem. Or a new all in one device.
