I prefer a baseline image made just after Win7 is set up and running best. After that there's incremental corruption creep. But a recent backup image is better than nothing.

I just back the registry up and do an image a week later and then every week. Now my main machine has shown some of the corruption creep as Greg says and it is something you are not be able to avoid unless you never install programs, download data, surf etc etc
Now perhaps I am being a bit hill billy about it but I have even thought of just copy / paste data from an image if I want to but again it beats the hell out of a reinstall. Just done one of those on a laptop and it is worse than ever.
