Is a SSD faster than a SATA II 10,000 RPM Drive?

Yes.

Ok specifically the transfer rate is consistantly higher by a decent margin but not 10x higher, but the access time is non existant. So where the HD heads are frantically flying back and forth seeking to the next bit of data it needs to read the SSD is just instantly returning the same data, almost like loading out of ram, every seek is instantanious and THAT makes it behave like the read performance is 10 times faster in real world usage.

Linear read performance is maybe 1.33x to 1.5x and constant from any place on the drive (rotating drive performance drops in half from one end of the platter to the other), seek performance is like 150:1

They are by far the best perfomance boost in a single event almost ever, since my 286 when I added a 287 for generating fractals

(Or maybe more approriately, since moving to a floppy based system to a 20 meg HD)

I don't get into all the read/write speeds and such. All I know is that whenever I go to open anything it is eye blinking fast. Open up Outlook 2007 and it just pops right there!

Have you guys noticed the 'VISTA' progress bar in the OP video? :roflmao:

I see you caught that one as well! They probably used some of those 7 themes for Vista customizations and claimed it was 7 there? It's also possible they set up a dual boot to see how fast it would be for Vista as well as 7 where Vista went on last or they used EasyBCD which will replace the new 7 boot screen with Vista's there.

i Think they just turned the aero interface OFF. Ove got the same as i installed a W& on a msi Wind and a HP 21xx

A fast bios and reduction of startup processes would see the fast appearance of the desktop. The only part that seemed to be really a bit too odd was the possibility of that actually being in a standby mode and not a full startup where the logon screen was customized to look like the first screen was the actual boot screen when it wasn't! That's where the question of the Vista scroll bar raised some eye brows here real fast!

When going back over the video a few times I have to suspect this was staged! I tend to agree with Orbital Shark on something being a bit too much out of place with this one!

Go to Phoenix Bios Labs website and read about it. It actuallt is pretty neat how it works. I was reading about it from them about 6 months ago. There was something that was stopping me from being able to do it though and I can't rememeber. My other Toughbook has a BIOS from Phoenix, that's how I was made aware of it. But it is defintley not a spoof. There are several companies in the mix now offering it.

Gigabyte has something like this on my new P55 board. I have not tried it yet but with an SSD you don't sit around waiting for your machine to boot anyway.

This video is probably staged but you can take steps to boot pretty fast if you really want to.

I'm not doubting Phoenix has something going as well as other companies. The video however is what looks a bit too contrived to be genuine noting a few obvious things there.
