Need Surround Sound

herd this term a few times not sure what it means i.e."4K Passthrough' does this mean it will let the video source just go thought not mess with it ? ... at all ? ... or are some passthrough's not as good as others and do mess with it ........ and what about the sound, or this about sound

I'm not sure what you mean by this sound also I meant sony and not nosy lol, the 4k passthough if a true passtrough will not touch the signal, that is correct. It will only take its sound signal from it to use for the receiver. The difference when talking 4k is that a receiver with 1.4 HDMI will passthrough 4k at 24/30 fps max and a HDMI 2.0 receiver can do it in that as well as 60fps (if the source can handle it).

No, it will pass though unchanged but your biggest issue would be the hdmi spec but since your tv on LG's site says it has hdmi 4k 60fps spec ports (does not say its hdmi 2.0 which is confusing) I would say get a HDMI 2.0 receiver in the first place. It looks like what you want your setup to be is a pass through receiver to handle the audio and the video to be handled by the tv.

after all this hassle think I jumped the gun a bit with 4K TV although u have to do it sometime? ... but today re-plugged my old Sony STR-DG910 in just connected speakers and connected to, from Optical out from TV works ok but never liked this unit as surround sound but better than TV speakers for now let 4K catch up with me I think ....... also think my 4K TV (LG 42UB820V) bit of a budget brand will look into the HDMI Speck thing
That said TV picture on ps4 is awesome in vivid (plus animation), not so good in normal TV, HD TV is a little better, but in my local super market the display model showing picture is better than awesome its unreal!!!!!!!!!! but that loop its playing, is filmed in 4K that we don't get yet ....... I assume

Yeah 4k to purchase is around the corner or atm very hard to acquire its mostly done with other means(using a pc as a source and playing 4k content from it), I recommend you just make sure your sony is setup for 5.1 or whatever its speakers are then see if it can see the DTS or AC3 streams from something like this off a usb stick. http://distribution.bbb3d.renderfarming.net/video/mp4/bbb_sunflower_2160p_30fps_normal.mp4 Right click the link and save as.

Very cool mp4 lol looked amazing on 4K will go back have a look at sound, but first time round sounded good

Is your usb formatted as FAT32, as that only supports individual file sizes up to 4GB. Format it as EXFAT or NTFS and it will work. Tv probably supports both.

Is your usb formatted as FAT32, as that only supports individual file sizes up to 4GB. Format it as EXFAT or NTFS and it will work. Tv probably supports both.

looks like my TV doesn't support mkv's (what ever they are lol) wont work on TV from USB say's it's corrupted and yes USB was fat32 reformatted to EXFAT but still no go on TV .... but then I fort ill play through pc to 4K TV with (HDMI NVIDIA Gefoce GTX 750i) this worked but still know sound ...... was playing using DivX Player this program told me to download AC3 Filters witch I did, bit complicated but got there in the end

upshot was I got to watch the file on pc as well as 4K TV simultaneously but sound only from pc better than nothing had to see now lol

picture on 4K better than PC but 4K whites too white (in Vivid mode) but colours better than PC also PC had some pixilation in parts not on 4K this is amazing stuff should make a new dedicated page level for it lol

if your playing it with pc use VLC and in vlc right click your video thats playing and under audio/devices pick your gpu and the tv should play the sound.

cool will try this and report back but having some pc issues at the moment see other post in back up and restore
