Win Install cleaner used instead of un-install - stuck

Ok I had both Adobe Acrobat & Reader on my computer & I needed to uninstall them both to just re-install acrobat.

Instead of using the uninstall feature through control panel, I used Windows Install cleaner & it didnt remove all of the files & now the new version of acrobat wont install because the old corrupt version still has some files present.

It still shows under control panel>uninstall a program - but when I try to uninstall it it says:

This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.

Any ideas on how to fully delete all files associated with Adobe Acrobat & Reader so I can do a clean install?

I have to ask the most obvios question. do you have a backup to restore from?

Failing that do you have the win 7 dvd?

I would try first system restore to an earlier point before you tried Win Install Cleaner, so that those applications are back. Then uninstall using Windows Programs and Features uninstall.

No sadly I havent been backing up my OS, just my media.

I tried to do a system restore via control panel, but the only one that comes up was from earlier today. I guess I dont have a lot of room on my c: drive to have more than that.

Any other options to completely uninstall acrobat/reader instead of having to reinstall windows?

what if I just uninstalled everything adobe?

It will wipe my photoshop, but hopefully it will get rid of what it needs to I can cleanly install acrobat?

I'm going to try that now via Windows Install Cleaner

I have seen similar error while installing SQL Server 2005 Express that time i gave permissions to that registry key

well using windows install cleaner to remove all adobe products didnt help. I also ran ccleaner after a restart & then restarted again and it still there

god damn it.

so I just have to reboot the entire system you guys think?

you may just try locate the installation folders and delete them since in one of the folders contains a file that is causing the read error for you new installation
I know 4 of the folders ar located in Appdata, Local, Local Low, Roaming and Program Data, those files should be the 4 main locations and any others should not particularly matter and the same with the registry keys again, it shouldn't matter but i would also expect to find Adobe folders contain in program files(x86)

Going from experience with other programs i would suspect that one those folders are removed you should be able to continue with the install

I deleted the entire appdata folder & still got the same error message even though half my programs went back to their default stage.

I'm getting pissed about this entire situation in general & think I'm just going to reinstall windows.

maybe this time around itunes will work on win7 64.

But probably not because microsoft & apple are both stupid.

I think It's time to give Revo Uninstaller a try.

Oh my goodness no i didnt mean for you to delete the folder called Appdata just the adobe folders inside
But since you've now done a fresh install that wont really matter now.... i hope you ave better luck with the new install
