Hmm, could someone maybe explain these crazy numbers? I decided to run HDtune on my regular HD, a laptop drive, 200GB 7200rpm. I'm running windows 7 in a virtual machine with 2gb of ram and 2 cpu cores, and my HD speeds were about 100MB/s higher than the SSD scores:sarc:
Does anyone have any idea how this is possible? Thanks!

It's not possible. You tested a virtual hard drive file. Obviously the HDTune app is not designed to handle that.

Test from the host computer and see what your results are...that will be far more accurate.

Yea, I always get flaky Atto and HDTune results when trying them on a virtual system.

Yeah; I was wondering about the CPU usage too. Maybe it's because I have a pretty old CPU (AMD 4800+). I have a 5600+ (that's the best my mobo can take) sitting on my desk but did not install it yet.
I have an OCZ Vertex too. But that will go on my Dell in Germany (in May).

This is my 80GB Intel

Here is what v1881 firmware did to my Patriot Torqx 128GB SSD. I don't know what the big dips are caused by. I have started seeing them in the last few tests.

Look at my CPU usage....I don't know if yours is accurate or mine... but interesting.

My goodness, we have reached "faster than light" speeds. This day will be remembered in history. lol

That's interesting in several regards.

1. Your MB/sec is practically the same as on my Intel 80GB (which is a 1.8")
2. Your CPU usage is negative versus mine being 21.3% - I wonder whether those times are accurate (both) - how can CPU time become negative.
3. The SSD access time is actually in Nanoseconds. But the program (probably initially being written for HDDs) cannot show Nanoseconds. Milliseconds is its smallest unit.

There is no way they can be accurate. I think it's just a free program that does not quite get it right with SSDs.

I'll bet the makers of HDTune will fix it up as SSDs become more popular.

I think what that's telling us is that your computer is executing commands just about the same time you are thinking them..... or a little before...
And "creating" resources instad of "using" them.

That's what it feels like sometimes. Having an average of 227 MB/sec as I do......it makes things nice!

Keep these numbers coming in. I should make a graph of all the different brands.....but we have mostly Intel in this thread....I think there are a few OCZs and my Partiots..

LOL, everybody probably bought the Intels when they were on sale at Newegg (like I did). But I also have an OCZ Vertex awaiting to be installed on my system in Germany - in May.

This is other data I would like to know.....how long we have used the drives. I have used my first Patriot Torqx for about 9 months now. 3 others for about 2-6 months.

I have done ALL firmware updates however. Some may not go to this extreme. I have nothing bad to say about the Patriot drives. I would like to know if anyone has had problems....especially with older (JMicron controlled) drives.....I would like to know if anyone is satisfied witht he older drives, and when the new Intel and new SandForce drives come out, I would like to see some numbers and any problems or good things about them posted here.

I wish this (or something like it) was a sticky. We could keep track of real world application of SSDs.

Very good idea. One of my friends said recently: "SSDs are not ready for prime time". He is probably right when it comes to the average user that uses his PC like an appliance. But an information exchange like you suggest could advance the cause.
I sometimes peek into the OCZ forum. There is a lot to learn from those hard core guys. Question is whether one really needs to know all that nitty, gritty stuff. i can live without squeezing the last 3% performance out of my SSDs.

I would say 2010 is the year SSDs are ready for the masses.

I spend some time on the OCZ and Patriot forums too. I would like to see some more info here. I hope people will post anything they know about them here. Post some performance numbers and any other info you can.
