Has anyone tried to install HotSync for Palm O/S (Classic version)?

I'd like to know if it will run on Win7 to HotSync my Palm Treo 680 with Outlook 2007, or must I make other arrangements.

I'd hate to lose this capability.

You CAN use Palm Desktop with Windows 7, but there are some tricks. I have heard of people installing it under Vista, then upgrading to Windows 7 (32 bit) and having it work.

I have a system that has been running XP, on which I installed Windows 7. I had the RC1 version, but had a disk problem and had that down for some time. I put off reinstalling until I got my Official Release Windows 7 disks last week. I now have a dual boot system with my XP Pro (32 bit) and Windows 7 Professional (64 bit).

Just a couple hours ago I got my Treo 650 and my Centro to both sync while booted in Windows 7. It appears that this cannot be done natively, but you can install Windows XP Mode then install Palm Desktop (I had the 4.14 version handy, so used that) on the virtual XP machine.

When you want to sync, press the sync button on your cable/cradle or launch from your palm, then attach the Palm Handheld from the USB menu. Mine starts syncing with no problems.

I haven't tried much else since installing with the official release Win 7 installation, but had it set up with the RC1 version and even had some apps installed, that I believe I could just launch from the Virtual XP Mode Applications menu under Start|All Programs without having the whole Virtual XP system running. Try and see what works. You may be able to get the Palm Desktop version 6 to work the same. Let us know. Also, any apps that do or do not work.

Just a quick update. I installed Splash Shopper and it works fine when launched from the XP Mode Applications menu without the whole virtual machine running. Splash ID would come up, but not have my data (perhaps something about the password process that doesn't work without the whole virtual machine running) but I will keep trying. It does work fine from the virtual XP machine.

hello,
the palm centro can not be synced via USB on win7.
I was told by palm to connect via bluetooth.
I saw a little thing that connects to a usb port that allows connectivity via bluetooth...wonder if true ( $20)

I know that the Hotsync doesn't work with USB on 64 bit Windows, but I thought it worked with 32 bit. I'm curious now. I use a very old Palm M130, and I usually sync it with an IR dongle. It's a pain, but it works, and I don't need to do it often, b/c I use the Palm as a status display with LCD Smartie.

I'm not sure if Palm has any plans to update the Classic Palm syncing software for x64. Last I heard they weren't, so those of us with older units are going to have to find another way. :(

You CAN sync via usb with 64 bit Windows 7 if you do in using XP mode! I have done it. I have 64 bit Widows 7 professional on my system. I can launch XP mode, press the sync button on my plam cradle, use the usb menu in XP mode to "attach" the palm device, and it syncs just fine. I can also run several apps using the XP mode application menu without launching the full XP mode. IT WORKS!

I did this with a Tungsten a few weeks ago. The official Palm website says to sync via Bluetooth. Go into the Hotsync settings and change it only to use Bluetooth for syncing. If you're using a USB-Bluetooth dongle, you need to set up a virtual COM port and then specify it in the Hotsync options. After that, just sync from your Palm.

Success - T3 - Win 7 64 bit - Bluetooth

I could not get it to work using a virtual machine (VMLite XP Mode)

After a lot of frustration and some blue screens, it worked for me...

HP p6675uk - 2 x dual core - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Downloaded Palm Desktop 6.2 and installed it, but skipped the hotsync.

Installed a Buetooth dongle - I used a dirt cheap one - the Dynamode BT-USB-M2

It did not install properly, but I ran the Troubleshooter and Windows found the updated driver (CSR is the maker)
Then the dongle kept dropping out - a yellow exclamation mark on the icon in the Devices and Printers window.

Then I ran services.msc (Start - Run - type in "services.msc" - OK) to discover that the Bluetooth service wasn't running! Enabled it in automatic mode.

Opened Bluetooth properties and made the dongle discoverable.
On the Palm, started Bluetooth and made a new trusted connection to the PC.
On the Palm set Hotsync to use the newly created Bluetooth conection
On the PC opened HotSync Settings → Connections to use Bluetooth only
Start Hotsync from the Palm.
That worked!

Tried again, got the “can't connect being used by another program" error message on the Palm.

Looked in Devices and Printers, the yellow exclamation mark was back. Experimented and found an answer that works reliably for me.

Now I have a routine:

After Windows start-up, when I want to run Hotsync, open Devices and Printers. Bluetooth has the exclamation mark.

* Open the Device Manager. Open the Bluetooth device. In the Driver tab, disable the driver, click OK. Go back in, enable the driver, click OK. Look again at the Devices and Printers window:

1. Exclamation mark gone. Switch on Palm, Palm appears in Devices screen, run Hotsync. Goto End

2. Exclamation mark there. Remove dongle, replace dongle

2a. Exclamation mark gone, goto 1

2b. Exclamation mark returns, goto * above

End - It worked, I'm happy. (Although it would be nice if the driver for the dongle was a bit more reliable)
