Programs and files on taskbar are stuck together or "grouped"! Help!

When I open any programs or files, they seem to stick together and I don't want that. I would want them to move individually instead of all at once. For example, if I open two firefox and two notepad, when I drag one of the notepad in between the two firefox, I can't do it. Two of the notepad drags at once and I can't separate them. It wasn't like this an hour ago. I don't know what happened. Please help! What happened? Thank you so much for your help and concern!

Right click on the Taskbar. Select Properties. Taskbar Buttons, click the drop down box, and select 'Never Combine'.
This will separate the taskbar buttons and allow you to manage them individually.

I am aware of that option and am thankful for your time. However, that is not the issue. The issue is that all the firefox windows that are opened are stuck together, if I want to drag just Facebook to one end, I can't. It drags all of the opened windows along with it. And if I open My Pictures and My Music, they are stuck together when I try to drag just one of them. If I want to drag the My Pictures tab to the end of the taskbar, that involves me dragging the My Music tab also. I cannot drag only one, it drags both. Sorry.

What version of FireFox do you have?

And, it sounds like your confusing terminology between the OS (your thread title), and an application (FireFox)

Does this offer any insight?

I know exactly what anguyen is saying and I totally agree. I want to have two explorers open and one on one side of visual studio and one on the other side so i can easily remember which one is what.

I think i may have found an answer to anguyen, and your problem.
I am surmising that your reference to "explorers" means Internet Explorer, and not Windows Explorer. There is a difference.

This uses a third-party program to facilitate tabbed browsing. Read all comments there, and in A Guy's link to see if it will really do what you want.
Because it is a .rar file you will need a program like 7-Zip or WinRAR (32-bit) - CNET Download.com to use it.

I tried going to Winrar's site, but kept getting timed-out, thus the CNET site. If you need the 64bit you will have to try going to Winrar's site to check for it. Winrar is free to try.

I already tried that program last night in my quest to satisfy what is now becomming an obsession.

No that program doesn't do what I want.

And I meant windows explorer but it doesn't matter, I want to move each individual application instance around on the task bar independently. It is odd to me that some people instinctively understand what is being asked and some can't get past the idea that this has to do with the merging of all icons into one. This isn't the merging this is for the wildly perverse computer interface nature desired by depraved hard core computer users like myself who want to be able to move icons around with abandon.

Crazy stuff like having one notepad on the left side of the task bar with words about monkeys and on the far right side of the taskbar a notepad about dragons, and everything in the middle organized in a non linear way that only the truly corrupted like myself could appreciate.

The problem for me isn't knowing "ah i have windows explorer open twice" I can tell from the yellow icon that is so. What I want is a visual cue inferred by placement and order of what is in each of those windows explorers or whatever other program might be open more than once.

I even have a dream sometimes of a wonderfully torrid and shocking experience where I am able to assign different colors to the icons as i sling them around the taskbar with abandon leaving the world where icons must be stuck together far far behind.

Luckily I have obtained a powerful sedative prescription so that I may again sleep at night and not be kept awake wondering when or if I may be able to play out such fantasies in real life some day.

It is now day 3,669 since this post. The world has changed and Windows 7 is no more. We have moved on to Windows 10 and this is still an unanswered issue from what I can tell :-D Curse you Cod for making the responder think you were the OP and refuse to help resolve the issue any more! Could it be that the universe is no longer smiling on those of us who prefer chaotic lives?!
