$1200 SSD - Why?

At the bottom of the page on this link Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, SSDs, Internal SSDs, 91GB - 128GB is a 120 GB SSD for $1200. What makes this so special?

Probably because it's one of the last SLC SSDs still available. For that price, one could replace an awful lot off MLC and TLC SSDs and still have money left over.

I am not familiar with SLC. My SSD opens files in one second. How much better could the SLC be?

It has more to do with how it ..........:

SLC (Single Level Cell) and MLC (Multi Level Cells)

You find the SLC's still being used in huge banks for stock traders where minute speed improvements can yield millions in a few seconds !

It has to do more with SLC having a longer life than MLC or TLC. The theory is that since SLC stores only one layer of data instead of two or three, it won't fail as soon due to excessive writes. However, the technology has advanced enough that premature failure from excessive writes is no longer a concern unless one does something nuts, like defragging the SSD, especially if frequently.

The price on the SSD listed is so high because it was probably made back when SSDs were outrageously expensive. The Fresh Hen Fruit company is going to have a tough time getting that old chestnut to move.
