I Have Windows 7 RC Build 7100 32 bit. I've been playing Fallout 3 A lot recently and been adding many many mods. It seems however, I've added so many that it needs more memory than the application is normally able to address. I have a utility which will allow it to use more RAM, however i need to enable the 3 GB switch for this to work. I know on Vista the command was "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072" However this is apparently not the case in Windows 7. Any Thoughts? Anyone know how to enable this change in Windows 7?

You need the exe. BCDEDIT.EXE /Set IncreaseUserVa <value>

Are you quite sure that Fallout3 is able to access the extra memory (is it LARGEADDRESSAWARE [LAA])? If not, bumping up the userVA setting will slow down your OS a little for no gain at all, since the Fallout3 process will still limit itself to ~1.9GB tops.

As an aside, if Fallout3 really is LAA, if you run it under x64 Windows it'll be able to allocate up to 4GB for itself.

I am running the 32-bit version though, so i have to change the setting. I have been thinking about updating to the 64-bit RTM version. As an aside, Is it possible to install the 64-bit version of the RTM over my current version?

Interesting. It's the first LAA game I've heard of, but then it's been some years since I've played games

Since it's LAA, the same game will be able to allocate up to 4GB for itself once its running under 64-bit Windows, without requiring you to change any settings. You can't "upgrade" to 64-bit though - it needs to be a clean install.

Yeah, And it's running better than ever. Increased Frame rates, less stutter. As Far as general performance i haven't noticed any real decrease.

I figured as much, Which means i probably won't be switching to a 64-bit OS for awhile.

Bringing up and older post here but hoping I can find some assistance. I have Win 7 32 bit, currently with 3GB RAM and 8800GTX 768MB graphics card. In FSX (Flight Sim) I also get an out of memory error on occasion. It seems the "/3GB" switch is a solution but I cannot find a step by step guide to do this.

Wow, Old Thread is OLD!
The above command should work, however FSX also needs to be set up to LAA (Large Adress Aware) otherwise you will see not benefit.
