Hello, i just installed an OCZ vertex 2 120GB SSD in my laptop and after the first clean install of windows my WEI score for data transfer was 7.8. I restored my comp because i couldn't use my windows upgrade key and now it is a 5.9. How can this be. I know for a fact it is the second best ssd currently on the market.

Was it restored from an image?

Did you run the WEI after the restoration? Maybe the 5.9 is being retained from the old HDD and embeded in the image.

Fixed...I didn't know that the WEI counts any external drives too. So i unplugged my backup drive and the score shot back up.

Does the computer feel slower? Likely it doesn't and you will notice that after allowing the system to settle in and then run the WEI later you will see much better score.

Yeah they are unreal and very transformational. I noticed with mine that I was testing it in WEI and other benchmarks too often and my scores dropped.....turns out that the SSD's don't respond well to frequent testing and scores will fall. All the while the SSD still feels fast and actually it still is. Once you let some time go by without benchmarking the drive will test well with high numbers again. I found that after I just stopped testing and left well enough alone the drive scored higher than when first installed.....go figure, wei all like playing with things till they break !;)

I was having trouble with my computer several weeks ago, so I installed the OS to a spinner with the SSD disconnected, to rule out the SSD as the cause. I kept thinking I can't believe I used to live like this. It was like everything was running in slow motion.

I just can't wait for what the future will hold with less expensive high capacity SSD's. How nice will it be when we have 500 and 1TB options within our price realm ! We'll look back and say remember when..............

I'm thinking in 2 years we'll look back and say remember when we had to deal with 40GB SSD's and run spinners for data......ha ha the good old days. Then you have the Cloud......don't even get me started on it !

The cloud can be a good and bad thing. I think that companies are pushing that too quickly. Think about it if google wanted to convert to cloud based comps and no data was on the local computer...Right now I don't think our cellular networks are capable.

Yeah, I just bought a 1TB HDD (For backups) for $80. But I don't for see the future having low SSD prices. If you think about it they practically last forever compared to an HDD. If everyone switches to SSD at a low price I bet some Hard Drive companies will go out of business.

Your completely right. I was just looking and a 1TB SSD is $3,000. I even paid $220 for a 120GB SSD!!

I once paid $375 for a 730MB Western Digital drive. And I also paid about $225 once for 16MB of RAM.

Well I can't speak for you but I've gone in recent years from 120gb to currently on my desk I have 6 TB's of storage plus my 64gb SSD and countless flash drives. I've become a real storage and back up whore ! So I don't see any drive manufactures demise anytime soon. Even the touted durability of SSD is surely greater than a mechanical spinner but trust me.......something will show later, like "silicon rot" patent pending ! :roflmao:
