a problem with firefox

Try running a copy of Cyberfox Portable. It uses it's own profile. If you get the same problem then it's not down to your Firefox installation. If the problem remains then we can look elsewhere for issues.

Cyberfox Portable Download

On another note it's always been a good idea to create regular Firefox profile backups especially before applying any program updates so that you can sort out problems when they occur.

A ps. is the any possibility the file "Firefox Setup Stub 47.0.exe" got corrupted and I am installing a bad copy?

That is not likely, but there is no need to use the "stub installer".
I provided the link to the Mozilla web page with the fully localized full installers in my previous reply.
Here is the link again: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

Having said that, if you have completely ripped out Firefox and all the associated application data, and you are still having problems after a clean reinstall, it seems likely that the root cause lies EITHER with a "global plug-in" OR with something else system-related, not with Firefox itself.

It's certainly reasonable to try @Callender's suggestion to test a different browser, such as Cyberfox portable.
You might try disabling hardware acceleration, as explained here:https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/k...fix-problems#w_turn-off-hardware-acceleration

Another option might be to continue with some of the additional troubleshooting steps here:
Firefox - Fix slowness, crashing, error messages, and other problems

Hope this helps,

^^ I think he managed to copy/paste the Mozilla folder somewhere else for safekeeping. BUT, Thank you very much for catching that, @Layback Bear. With the OP's use of "quote reply" for each post, I plain missed it. ^^

I did try Cyberfox. Same problem. I went into Internet Explorer and told it to open new pages in a new tab insted of a new windows box. IE needed to close to finsh the change then re open. Internet Explorer didn't re open. I am now on my Samsung Galaxy tab 2-10.1 tablet again because the whole laptop just crashed and it won't reboot. It is saying now there is no C drive in place. The laptop bios sees the HDD and I have a HDD testing prog on it's own bootable cd. That prog says that the memory and the hard drive are 100% a-ok. Something must have corrupted Windows. I don't know what happened. But now I have no choise I have to wipe the partition and start over again clean. Thanks to everyone that steped up to the plate and offered ideas. To bad this problem couldn't be fixed.

Wow, that's awful.:(
Sorry to hear about your troubles.
I guess the Firefox problem was really just a symptom of something else more serious under the hood.

I hope you get it fixed up.

Good luck,
MM

re: a problem with firfox

No big deal. It just takes a few hours to wipe the partition > install win 7 > config win and install drivers then install all of my prog's from ether backup cd's or what is backed up on the D HDD in the USB case. I learned at the school of hard knocks. Make shure there is a backup someware incase the C hard drive does an imatation of R2D2 on crack. ;)

Once installed, patched and up to date why not make a system image backup that you can restore? Saves all the hassle.
