Backup error: Server execution failed (0x80080005)

delete the 31 MB OEM partition

on you C: drive have the drive label name something other than C like this...... OS Drive C:

so you are doing a triple boot

so it looks like disk 1 held an OS at some point and was not wiped and repartioned

I actually would move what ever you have on disk 1 partition E to drive F and wipe disk 1 and resetup your partitions on that drive

on disk 0 if you are not using the Linux partitions I would wipe that disk and start from scratch there to

This is my old Dell PC hd that encased in a Masscool IDE/SATA USB drive case that I
have hooked up as a additional drive.
The Dell messed up, but I want to try to put it back in there some time. I could just
unplug it if you want.

that drive had been flagged as C in the old PC I bet thats what is causing your problem here when plugged into this machine it was reassigned E

what about the Linux partitions

I am dual booting win 7 and ubuntu 9.10 on drive 0 - 366.70 for win 7, 91.43 for ubuntu, 7.63 for ubuntu swap file.

Drive 1 is the E: drive former Dell OS hd I mentioned in previous post. the OEM and the rest was XP pro.

Then disk 2 is the 1TB Fantom Drive I was backing up to.

I am on it! Rebooting now. I'll post after I try to setup the backup.
Thanks!

Would you believe it got the same error! 0x80080005
It always looks like it is going to start up, the box appears and the green line at the bottom.
But, then the error occurs!

Options was under Tools, but I disabled it.
When I got to system restore, it said No restore points have been created...
It would never create more than a couple although it said it was.
That's funny, but anyway I turned restore points off for drive C:
What's also funny is F: didn't switch to E: as we thought it would.
There is just no E: now.

you might want to check MSCONFIG startup tab and uncheck all unneeded programs from startup tab and hide all MS Services then uncheck any uneeded services there maybe something that is starting with Windows that is jamming things up here

unplug the USB external drive and plug it back in

I did and re-booted and it still came up listed as F:!
A long box came up listing things the new drive could be used for and at the bottom
was Backup, which I clicked on and it still got the same error.

But, why did F: not change to E:? I rebooted twice and the 1st time I just turned
F: off and the 2nd time I physically unplugged the USB cable and when it
came up it was still F:
