Black Screen Upon Login Evolved into Blue Screen

Hello,

I was successfully using my PC for the entirety of this morning. After bumping my desk, the machine shut off as it sometimes does when a cable is loose. When the machine restarted, it allowed me to login and then showed me only a black screen and cursor. Ctrl+alt+del was functional. I tried system restore and system repair, both of which completed but did not have any effect. I was able to access Windows via safe mode. I removed my GPU and connected my monitor to my motherboard. The situation did not change. I attempted to boot without my main drive (SSD) by disconnecting it and turning the PC on. Instead of a login screen, I am now greeted by a flash of a BSOD before the system restarts. After running a couple rounds of startup repair, Windows has declared it cannot resolve the issue.

Any guidance will be warmly appreciated! Thank you!

Edit: after restarting once more, my bios prompted for a boot device and I was able to reach the login screen. I am now back at my original black screen problem.

Can you boot into Safe Mode at the moment? if so, follow this:

1. Download the DM Log Collector application to your desktop by clicking the link below

DM Log Collector.exe

2. Run it by double-clicking the icon on your desktop, and follow the prompts.
3. Locate the .ZIP file that is created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

I attempted to enter Safe Mode with Networking, but the system stopped on disk.sys before throwing another blue screen. The system is now working through startup repair again. It was unsuccessful and provided the following diognostic and repair details:

Do you recall the bluescreen code that popped up?

Run the LONG test using the DOS version of SeaTools, and report outcome:

I booted into SeaTools, but I am unable to run any tests. Under "Selected Drive Information" it reads:

No Hard Drives Found
If you believe this to be incorrect, check cables, drive power connection and jumper settings. And then try again.

I double checked all connections and tried again to no avail.

It may be worth noting that in the BIOS, I only saw one of my hard drives listed (I have two and one SSD, on which Windows is installed).

Did you remember to change to IDE mode in BIOS?

I changed to IDE, but now I cannot boot into SeaTools. It is stuck on a black screen with the following text:

Starting BCDW... ok.
FreeDOS_

Nevermind. After restarting, I've made it into SeaTools. Two drives are listed: their names are "ST31000528AS" and "SanDisk SDSSDP064G". I will post the results of long tests for both as soon as they complete.

Please review the steps in OPTION 2 of the tutorial again. Then try run SeaTools again.

Thats not good - whenever SeaTools fails, its an indication of a failing hard disk. You should backup your data and replace the disk as soon as possible.
