Solved black screen with moveable cursor

I tried to read the posts for this problem and the general advice is to scan for virus infection with Malware Bytes. Let me describe my symptoms.

Some times my pc boots normally for a few days. More often than not, it boots with the black screen and moveable cursor after the Windows 7 welcome message. I then power down and then repower the computer. If I boot up in Safe Mode with networking, I can then enable System Restore using a Restore Point which had a recent successful boot. This allows the computer to boot normally and the computer appears to perform normally, thereafter, as long as I do not turn off the computer. I manually update the System Restore point often.

I believe I have scanned my computer with Malware Bytes, and that has not corrected this black screen problem.

I would appreciate any suggestions. Meanwhile I will try to wade through all the posts on this subject.

Black screen with moveable mouse

Greg,

Thanks for the comprehensive response.

I ran a Malware Bytes scan and passed with no detected virus.

I ran Startup Repair under System Recovery Options just once and that fixed the black screen on
bootup problem.

I will now make a new Restore Point and a fresh Backup Image.

Good news, Sinchi.

If you're motivated you can work through the rest of the troubleshooting steps to go over your install to check it the most thoroughly possible. I would at least be sure you have a Clean Boot, the logs are clear of repeat errors, Check for Problem Solutions and Generate a System Health Report.

Solved Windows7 starts with black screen

When I find that the problem is authentication of the user account, remove the hard drive and mount it in a windows machine. Add Everyone permission Full and then put the drive back and you'll should be able to log into the account again. This works when safe_mode is not available or booting to a Dart disk isn't an option.
