Blu-Ray/DVD-Drive Disappears after Startup

I wish that was it but my bluray drive isn't in the top bay. There are 14 fans in my computer, one being a huge exhaust fan on top.

Aw thats a pity.. 14 fans? perhaps yours has caught a cold instead!
Hope you find the answer to your problem. Perhaps my post will show up on google for some people for who overheating is the answer so it was still worth putting up.
Cheers.

I'm not exactly sure if i'm typing it correctly in CMD.exe

I typed: C:\[otherstuff]\Desktop\BH08LS20_200.exe

and it opened the program up and it still wouldn't recognize the drive.

I also tried: C:\[otherstuff]\Desktop\BH08LS20_200.exe update D:

And it didn't work.... am I typing it wrong?

was there a "readme" file that came with the firmware update? i think, from an elevated command prompt, you have to change the directory to your blu-ray drive, then type the rest of the command.

=========================

Never update the firmware if the problem you’re having is the drive
isn't seen by windows, won't write with the included software, or other
interface related problems, unless the firmware specifically states it
fixes the problem you are having. Firmware updates normally don't fix these
types of problems. Trying to update the firmware when there are interface
address these problems can damage the drive's firmware. An error when
updating the firmware is usually caused by a problem with the drive
interface or there is more than one drive connected to that IDE channel.

I know this post is old but I'm just wondering if you ever found a solution? I am having the exact same problem with a new Lenovo B310. The OD and mainboard have been replaced so it doesn't appear to be a hardware problem. I am only able to get the DVD back by restoring the system constantly. I am now not installing Quicktime to see if that could be the problem. Would be great if you could let me know how you resolved the issue, thanks.
