Blue Screen randomly on startup

Hi there,

A few weeks ago I upgraded most of the components in my PC myself, and since then I've been having a few problems I'm hoping someone can help me with.

Okay so the first problem upon startup is a message that pops up before Windows starts; "Scan Devices... No any device exists!"
This is fixed by disabling the IDE controller, however the IDE controller is frequently re-enabled without me doing so, probably due to subsequent problems...

The next problem is what I think is causing all the trouble; "ASUS Anti-Surge has protected your system from an unstable power supply", "Power Supply surges detected during previous power-on" etc.

Now, normally I can just hit F2 to "load default values and continue" however perhaps once a week I will get a random BSOD upon Windows booting up. The most common BCCode is 1a (Memory Management).

Strangely though, by simply unplugging and replugging the PSU connectors to the MB, the power supply surges and BSOD both go away upon next boot, but then on the boot after that the power supply surges message returns???

Could there be an issue with the PSU? Or the motherboard?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! :)

Thanks for your time and consideration,

Trevor.

Forgot to add step 5;

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x64
- the original installed OS on the system?
Vista Home Basic x32 was installed on the (now) secondary HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium first on WD HDD
It was purchased from a reseller

- What is the age of system (hardware)?
MB, CPU, OS, PSU, RAM all 3 weeks old or so... rest around 6 months old
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?)
Have not reinstalled since new build 3 weeks ago

Thanks,
Trevor

What is that? Is it message you receive when startup your computer? If so, perhaps your power supply has problem then.

With only 1 DMP, it's hard to know exactly what cause all of these. As you describe, you receive this BSODs about once a week at startup, so let's do a clean boot to see if problem ever come back again:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

I would also recommend you to remove Norton for testing, third party antivirus are notorious for causing BSODs and I suspect its service gave you BSODs at start up:
Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support

Hey thanks for your reply,

I uninstalled Norton :)
I have found that by turning the PSU off when the computer is off (ie only giving the MB power when the computer is on) the power supply surges messages have stopped

Oh asus anti surge is a feature on most of their MB's which detects unstable voltages (from power supply or the wall etc.) and is supposed to prevent damage to the MB...

So far no blue screens so fingers crossed, I guess I'll just have to remember to switch the PSU off when i shut down :)

Probably a motherboard problem I am assuming... It's probably out of warranty though anyways...

Again thanks for your reply,

Trevor
