Solved Boot manager is missing (please read and help)

Maybe the display driver was installed badly and it will work if tried again. If not, hide the Update by rightclicking on it.

I would not turn off Automatic Updates as they are too important for security, and getting faulty drivers via optional Windows Updates is quite literally one in a million chance.

No, Automatic update is not turned off, I just set it up so it asks me which updates I want before it installs--so it won't install the video card update without asking me.

Thanks for the clarification, Greg. I really thought that what I was doing was alright so I did not come here first. The System Reserved Partition was created during the vendor's installation and I perhaps wrongly thought that it had no link with my clean install on a formatted drive.

Could you please clarify one more thing. Why and how did the System Reserved Partition get created at all in the first place when the vendor installed Win 7 Pro? It is not there on my Desktop and now on my daughter's Laptop.

So now I think that whenever one gets the message of "Bootmgr not found" one should just clean up everything and reinstall the OS like I did. I am still wondering what was inside the deleted partition "System Reserved" that caused all the mess in the first place.

Deleting the System Reserved boot partition might make Win7 fail to boot? Ya think?

Did you notice that it said System and Active on that partition? If not then you shouldn't be "cleaning up" partitions after installation, then coming here afterwards (instead of in advance to ask) to report that the solution is reinstalling Win7.

System Reserved is created during install if you create a partition using Drive Options (Advanced), or select Unallocated Space and click Next to have it autoformat during install.

You'll know you are going to get it because it will prompt with a warning, at which time you can back out into Repair console, use a Command Line to run Diskpart "Create Partition Primary" command on the disk in focus which will fill empty space with a partition that you can then select during install.

:( It looks like Windows 7 was still able to update the video card and now I get the black screen again :( Does anybody know how I can remove the update to the video card? Thanks. Also, how can I stop Windows 7 from updating it automatically? :(
