BSOD 0x0000008e ataport.sys after sleep mode

I just had this BSOD several minutes ago on a Dell Dimension 5100 (which I'm typing this from right now). I know the hard drive I am using has bad sectors. The other drive didn't do this. I may try out the other drive since it still has Windows 7 on it. I also had two other BSODs with different error codes. Also, what all will the minidump file show?

What information about my pc will that have? (Username etc.) Also, I got another blue screen today. These seem to be happening after I resume from sleep mode. The error code is 0x0000007a KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR.

Try this

Insert the windows installation DVD and reboot the PC. Right after the PC restarts tap the F12 key several times to toggle the boot menu. Once it appears, select your DVD drive from the list and boot from the windows DVD. On the first menu choose the language and keyboard layout, press next. On the second screen click "Repair your computer". On the third screen choose your windows installation, probably only one on the list, and click next.

On the following screen choose the "command prompt." Once you have input, enter diskpart and follow it by list volume. You should see at least two ntfs partitions. The small partition is the boot partition, note the drive letter. Based on its size, you should be able to determine the windows installation partition, note that as well.

Finally input this

sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\Windows

   Note

here we assume that c: is the boot partition, d: is the windows installation partition, you may need to change the drive letters
accordingly.

Once this process completes, input

chkdsk d: /r /f /x

   Note

where we assume that d: is the system partition, as it has been established above. Note the scan report.

Finally, reboot into windows and go to this directory

c:\windows\logs\cbs\

Upload the CBS file

I popped out the CMOS battery and left it for maybe 30 seconds, then popped it back in, plugged the pc in, and booted it. I set the date and time and then rebooted the computer. It said resuming Windows and it did resume successfully (unlike a couple of times before) I have tried sleep mode a couple of times. I have rebooted it (once or twice) and tried sleep mode and it resumes successfully. I am going to reformat it (as well as change some settings in the BIOS) now and put a fresh copy of Windows on it. I will update this thread later on.

After I reinstalled Windows 7, I had another blue screen at the setup screen. Turns out, when I disable the other hard drive in the BIOS, I get blue screens. When I keep it enabled, they don't happen. It seems to be fixed now.

Also, these blue screens seemed to happen after I would press the power button to try and shut it down. I am not sure if the amount of presses had anything to do with it.

When you're installing Windows you mentioned you have two hard drives. You will want to install Windows with one hard drive plugged in then add the second one after you're finished installing Windows .
