Hey guys after installing Vmware the laptop needed to restart and gave me this BSOD with error code 0x000000A5.

After getting this I tried to use the recovery console and get the same error as well as for safe mode and last known good configuration.

I inserted my Windows 7 disc to try and use the recovery features on there and get this error

I've seen in other similar threads that there could be issues with the ram/bios/hdd.

It's a new laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 edition and the bios is Aptio Setup Utility version 2.10.1208. (c) 2010 American megatrends. Inc.

Any help would be amazing.

Thanks,

James

Sounds like you have hard disk errors. Use http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html to select Repair Your Computer and get to the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html. Then select the command prompt. Do the following:
chkdsk /r c:
chkdsk /r d:
chkdsk /r e:
chkdsk /r f:
.etc until you get the message that the volume could not be opened for direct access. For any drives that do not give the message:
"Windows has checked the file system and found no problems"
run chkdsk again as above. In other words, if it says:
"Windows has made corrections to the file system"
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

I realize you may only have one disk show up in Windows explorer, but you may have more than one disk through recovery options. This is because the system creates a hidden boot partition (which will be C: in recovery), you may have a recovery partition for your PC that is hidden (which will be D: in recovery), and you will have your primary Windows partition (which may be E: in recovery). A custom PC will likely have at least C: and D: to scan.

Hey guys so just a little update. I downloaded a windows 7 recovery disk from the internet and made it usb bootable so I'm able to get to start up repair.

It said it was unable to repair this computer automatically. So I quit that and found command prompt and ran chkdsk on drives

A-Z

A: & B: have no direct access

C: Windows has found no problems but

"Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50"

C: Windows has found no problems but

"Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50"

I have no idea what to do now. Are there some bootable distros that have diagnostic tools for the bootable partition for windows 7.

Took me about 4 hours to find a way to get chkdsk running. I'm at wits end and really need this laptop for work.

Last quick update. I solved the problem!!

I followed one of your tutorials on fixing the mbr.

I got back into command prompt and used the bootrec /fixboot command and somehow that did the trick although the other options suggested it couldn't detect my OS.

Thanks for the help writhziden
