Solved BSOD after resuming from Hibernation

Good Day

I have been having BSOD problems with my new Gigabyte Q1585N laptop almost from the time I bought it (about 3 to 4 months back) I thought that running Windows Updates would solve the problem - but it has not gone away. It gives the BSOD immediately after I log in after resuming from Hibernation. It happens regularly.

I'm a type of hands-on person with technology and don't like to send my laptop away for repairs for 2 weeks - what do I do without it in the meantime?

I have searched through this forum but it seems as though BSOD problems are quite specific. It also seems as though this forum has been able to assist many in solving their problems - hence my trying it out in hope as well.

I've attached the requested dump files. I would appreciate any help.

Memory corruption probably caused by a driver. please run these two tests



1-Memtest.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

2-Driver verifier

I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

That sounds like serious, scary stuff. Although I'm normally game for any type of technical tinkering this sounds like I need to do it during a weekend when I have some spare time available. I'll do my best though to do it - but that won't be right now.

Thanks very much for such professional help. With these two replies you've made me a life long friend of Sevenforums. Although it seemed a bit of a mountain to get started with the advice - I did in fact do the first test already. I downloaded the memtest software - I downloaded the version that can install onto a USB flashdrive. I then set my laptop to boot from the USB drive, although I realised afterwards I could have just entered the Boot Menu by pressing F12 and chosen the relevant boot drive.

To cut a long story short, I ran 10 passes on the memory test through the night and the memory has passed with flying colours - good to know. Now for the second test - verifying the drivers and also updating the BIOS.

OK, I think I owe an update on this problem, the steps taken and the outcome.

After MemTest, which was passed, I then did start the Driver Verifier of Windows 7. The machine then did bomb out on various occasions and I narrowed it down to the driver of my graphics tablet, a Genius EasyPen i405. It seemed as though it was using a Windows driver which I couldn't update.

Recently, though, it seems as though the problem has sorted itself out. An updated graphics tablet driver came out - as part of Windows Update - that enables the graphics tablet to be used in Extended Screen mode. It seems as though that sorted out my problem and I no longer have BSOD's.

Nevertheless, I really appreciated the help I received here and it will be my first port of call when I come across a baffling technical problem. It is reassuring to know that such a forum exists.
