Solved BSOD on a nearly new computer

Update on the gpu, it seems it was user error!
anyway, I reseated it, now displaying.
Will now followed the tut to use the nvidia drivers.

Quick update, notice no dump file!!
Seems to be stable and no crashes since the reinstall, not put any programs on yet .
still installing updates but I think they are about done.
Bit worried, I have just done an intel burn test and the cpu temp got up to 100 on just abut all cores, it passed the test though.
It is a stock cooler so is that about right?
I understand that the 4790K is overclocked to start with but I no idea so I thought you guys might have an opinion?

One piece of advice, do not run a CPU stress test with the stock cooler. That is pretty close to shut down temp. You do not want to get anywhere near there. You shouldn't get anywhere near that temp during normal use, but the stock cooler is not built to handle a CPU like you have under stress.

Definitely, I can't second Steve's advice enough. Give us a budget for a cooler Nick and I'll find something out for you, you really should get one.

No budget really, the reason I do not have one is the pc was bought as is.
Will I have to strip the pc down, get the motherboard out and put it on?
I am shying away from anything like that just for warranty purposes.
The hottest it has been without stressing it is about 74 when using fsx.
But if you can recommend one, I will look into getting one.

60 seconds and 100°C, is just not going to get it. The 4790K is a pretty hot running CPU. The stock cooler is not going to handle it. I have often wondered why they even send them with the CPU. I have a box full of never been used ones.

Nick, it depends on your case. If your case has a cutout on the back side that gives access to the back of the CPU, then no. You can just change it.

The case is a zalman z11 plus plenty of room in there, can you please advise?

Nick, take off the right hand side of your case (as you look at the PC) and see if there's a cutout showing the back mounting plate of the processor. You should see the ends of four screws (see photo below), if you can then replacing the cooler will be easy.

You'll need to decide whether you want an air cooler or water cooler. You can get a decentish air cooler for just north of twenty quid, but a good one will be around £60 or so.

Just been reading your thread, the water cooler looks great, maybe a little above my pc skills atm
If you can point to a good quality air cooler mate, price is not an issue really, i suppose the best if will make a big difference.

The H80i is pretty easy to fit Nick, it's just a bit fiddly holding a fan and radiator at the same time. If you do want to go that way I'll talk you through it no problem. If not, I'd recommend this air cooler below, but make sure it ill fit first, it's huge. Either will help your CPU last much, much longer.
