Hi. This is my first post and I'm a bit of a PC novice...
My PC, an HP DM4 64bit purchased directly from HP, approx 6 months old, has just started giving me problems

When I power up, Windows starts to load, I get to the Windows password screen, enter my password, and Windows continues (very slowly) until my desktop appears.

But after just a couple of seconds the PC crashes, with a BSOD appearing very briefly.

If I boot up in safe mode I don't have any crashes

I've tried system restore, but it just hangs for hours.

Windows was pre-installed on the PC, so I don't have the CDs. There is an HP Recovery partition though

I tried to run perfmon /report, but got the error message:
Error:
An error occured while attempting to generate the report
The system cannot find the path specified

Any help please?

Thanks

Hi
OK, did as asked
Now the laptop boots up (though it takes about 5 or 6 minutes to get to the desktop), but instead of getting the BSOD the desktop freezes after a minute or so, the cursor dissappears and the laptop doesn't respond to the keyboard!
So I don't know what's going on now
any ideas please?
Thanks

In safe mode with networking run a scan of Malwarebytes, be sure to update the database first. Also run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

This will fix any corrupt system file(s)
