BSOD while attempting Windows 7 recovery

I have been trying to do a system recovery on our HP Pavilion dv6 laptop. I have tried many troubleshooting methods and actually got past the blue screen after using a windows repair dvd and a clean install. But apparently I did something wrong because when logging on I had to choose between "Windows 7" and "Windows 7 (recovered)". So I decided to start over and perform the recovery again. I am back at the bsod and have decided to ask for help before my brain crashes.

Whatever, the display driver is extremely old.

Update your ATI/AMD display driver.
You can get it from the link in our forum, http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-...alyst-video-driver-windows-7-a.html#post17671, or you may go to AMD Graphics Driver and Software and opt for Automatically Detect and Install the appropriate driver for your card.

During installation, you may opt for advanced installation, and install the display driver only, not the Catalyst Control Center.

Let us know the situation after doing this. Then, depending on the situation we will suggest you the next steps.

Sorry, I'm not tech savvy so I'm not sure what a GPU is.

How do I update the AMD driver if the recovery did not successfully install? I have a recovery message on my screen saying "The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons: Save Log, Details, Retry".

GPU means graphics card. You have two cards there and both of them are ATT/AMD. For either of the card or the driver thereto, the failure is taking place.

What type of recovery you are attempting? I guess a system restore or something similar? As the display driver is reverting back to the old one, the issue is taking place.

Remove both the GPUs. Connect the VGA/DVI to the motherboards end and attempt the restore again.

As you are not tech savvy, you may find it tough. If so, bring the machine to a tcchnician. Remote assistance will not be very helpful if you don't know what is being instructed.

But if you want to try yourself, we are here. WE will try to make our instructions easier to understand.

BriRoe, if you dont have the idea about what to do, dont try to do it yourself, even following a tutorial. Doing hardware following a tutorial is not very safe and secure.

But you may get some hints by seeing this video ....
