Cannot create new folder / changing reg doesn't work

Hi,

not sure where this should go so I'm putting it here. I can't create new folders through explorer through clicking the "new folder" button and the option is also missing from the right-click menu. I've tried the registry fix, but no can do.

Any ideas?

What happens when you press the 'New folder' button? Any activity?

Also, try the sfc /scannow command.

No activity, it seems it has receded to a mere decorative stage where is simulates being a useful button through animation but not much else. I'll run the check now and report back when it's done, thanks.

I only get that when I click an empty spot on the desktop, now you're making me wonder; but this (clean) install is less than 2 weeks old.

What version of Windows 7 and where did it come from? (not that's it's any of my business)

It's home premium and it came with my laptop, so no funky fake software going on. If you need any more detailed info than that you'll have to enlighten me on how to get it.
