Solved Can't reinstall Win 7 from partition or disc?

You may have a failing Motherboard, Sata cable, or HD.
Will the HD show in BIOS?

First there is a bluescreen during install due to Intel Storage Manager.

Now the Hitachi fitness test fails due to lack of SCSI controller found.

What I would do at this point is find the needed HD SATA or SCSI controller for your mobo and add it to the installer at the Load Drivers link on "Where do you want to install Windows" screen.

If this fails, try install with another HD to see if it is the HD which is generating these errors and not failing controller or driver.

Sata Controller drivers not need in PC DOS.
Hitachi fitness test, run's from PC DOS.

What do you make of the SCSI error thrown up by the Fitness test, Ray?

Hi Greg
You can find that Windows will sometimes call Sata Controller, SCSI Controller.

Hi njmac
I would recommend a full work shop System Diagnostics, be done, to pin down the hardware problem.

Thanks guys. so how would I find the needed HD SATA or SCSI controller for my motherboard ("mobo"?)?

You mean by a professional? It's sounding quite likely now.

There's a possibility of boot sector corruption. If it isn't under warranty (or even if it is - you don't have to tell them) I would try the wipe and clean reinstall using the Installation DVD you said you have attained.

Here are tips for getting a purrfect clean reinstall of factory OEM: http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/125874-re-install-windows-7-a.html#post1086729

If the install fails we can run through the standard fixes to see if it will install. If not, then you may need to check the hardware deeper.

Acer picked up my laptop at the start of the week, whicked off to Helsinki and returned it this morning with the news that the hard drive had failed so they put in a new one and cleaned the fa. thank god for the 2 year euro warranty. I'm a bit concerned that it failed after 14 months, even if it was used pretty heavily. But anyway... 2Tb NAS is on the way for media storage, my existing 500 gig usb drive will be used purely for backing up documents and photos and I'll try to remember not to trust any one location for storage of anything I value in the future.
A huge thanks once again for all your help. I'll definitely be hanging around severnforums from now in an attempt to get the best out of my machines.
(I thought about trying an outlandish april fool's claim but in the end went for the truth)
cheers
Nj

aghhhhh. my graphics card isn't working. Checked in device manager and I have a warning exclamation. when i investigate under device stutus I have "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". Attempting to update the driver just tells me it's the most up to date version. I can't work out what to do here. Is it worth a new post in the relevenat section or is it something bloody obvious I should already have worked out?
I just noticed that all my drivers can't be installed as my keypad should track up, down left right with double fingers drawn across it.
cheers

Update your touchpad driver, which may be already cued in optional Windows Updates once you enable hardware auto-updating: Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware

Try reinstalling your video card driver first. Click on uninstall in Device Manager, then restart the computer to force reinstall. Next click on Update tab on Device, Let Me Choose, then choose another installed driver for the card to see which works. If this fails, go to the Support Downloads webpage for your video card to import and install the latest driver again.

If all this fails, physically reinstall your video card to carefully check all of its connections. Can you defalt to onboard graphics, as is often the case when a card is added?

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling again but no luck. And checked again but AMD's site only has the full catalyst suite, not individual drivers available.. which is a pain. So instead of physically checking the grahics card and possibly invalidating the warranty I just phoned Acer again so they're picking it up again tomorrow.
thank god for having a couple of older spare machines...

I just noticed that I never posted a "final" update. The long and the short of it is that the laptop went back and forward 3 times to Acer in Sweden and at one point someone in Germany posted me a new hard drive with pre installed OS. The laptop runs reasonably well now but despite every effort certain menus relating to the graphics card insist on staying Finnish... so I gave up.
But thanks to this forum I did take a Toshiba R600 declared dead at work, threw in a new hard drive and booted from USB and installed a nice fresh slice of windows 7 professional. I replaced the optical drive with a new one but it still doesn't work. so until I figured that out I was stuck with USB only.
God bless you gentlemen (in a Tiny Tim voice)
