After a week of searching, I am trying my luck here :)
I can't get my folders to preview the pictures inside it, nor can I appoint an image to show on the outside of a folder any more.
I tried everything I could think of and also tried the tut from here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11738-thumbnail-previews-enable-disable.html
Nothing changed and I am at a loss, why can't my folders preview an image any more?
Thanks in advance for thinking with me!

I have windows 7, professional, 64 bit

Try this, hope below mentioned steps will help to solve your issue.

1. Open the Pictures library by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Pictures.
2. In the left pane, click the folder that contains the pictures you want to view.
3. Click the arrow next to the Views button, and then move the slider to change the size of the thumbnails.

If above procedure, does not work for you, then try this:

1. Open Windows Explorer, click on Organize button present in command bar and select "Folder and search

options".
2. Now go to View tab and make sure "Always show icons, never thumbnails" option is not enabled i.e. its
disabled.
3. If the option is enabled, uncheck the checkbox and click on Apply button.

It should fix the problem. If you can't access Folder Options, you can use following alternative method:

1. Type sysdm.cpl in RUN or Start Menu search box and press Enter. It'll open System Properties.
2. Go to "Advanced" tab and click on "Settings" button in "Performance" section.
3. Now make sure "Show thumbnails instead of icons" option is enabled.

4. If its not enabled, enable the option and click on Apply button.

Thank you Julia

I realize your post was very old but it helped me alot. I had had Best Buy "diagnose" my computer and they wiped half my software (and settings) off. I have hundreds of pics and couldn't view them in the folder...

THANK YOU SO MUCH! :D

sometimes the "Show thumbnails instead of icons" in performance settings needs to be unchecked, applied, checked and applied again, for some reason in order to get the image thumbnails
