I did that earlier before I logged back on and SUCCESS!!
I can now double click on the CD/DVD Drive and it plays!

But after checking "Set your default programs" WMP is still not listed but it's listed in "Set Program access & computer defaults"?

Also in "Change AutoPlay Settings" I selected WMP but inserting a cd autoplay doesn't work?

Thanks to all who have helped in this process!!

This is what fixed the problem...

Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:
Step 1.
Uninstalling the Windows Media Player:
1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
3. Browse to the Media Features and uncheck the mark in front of Windows Media Player.
4. Restart the computer

Step 2.
Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:
1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
3. Browse to the Media Features and place a check mark in front of Windows Media Player.
4. Restart the Computer.

I agree. Good link by the way, should work in W7.
The solution in this thread that the OP used seems like a standard MS procedure for when they don't really know what is wrong: turn off and turn on again... :D
Your link seems more logical but we'll have to wait for the next thread to test :D

I have been reading it more than once. In you post #27 you stated.

That left me with the impression that everything wasn't quiet proper yet.
That's why I wanted to make sure in my mind how everything got fixed. Sorry for the bother.

Our (the experts here) issue is not with the thread as is. Our issue is that that thread does not tell us what was really wrong. All it does is a fix-it-all by de-installing and then install again. We hope that the solution Irene points to, is more to the point.
