Hello dear community

Now i've tried to fix this error myself for countless of days, this quite common problem.

The error is following: My computer now and then doesnt recognize that i've got a ethernet cable plugged in to my computer.
The internet work all times on all of the other 3 computers in the home network.

OS: win 7
NIC: intel r 82566dc-2 gigabit network connection

I've tried to disable IPV6 adress, updated drivers and some other stuff, And when I tried the option to change the link/duplex from auto to fixed it worked. Sometimes it worked at 10mb, then it lost connection to the cable and I changed it to 100/ 1 gig and it work again. And when 100/1gig didnt work i changed back to 10 aso. This worked for about 1-2 weeks. Then suddenly it couldnt find the cable in neither of the options.
So I tried the good old plugg out modem, router + computer and let it be offline for some hours and then put it on again. I tried this several times each day for a week (changed to all varies of duplex each time). Then suddenly it worked again, for 5 hours, then it died AGAIN.
Now ive been cut from the internet for some days on my desktop computer again. Needless to say im getting pretty frustrated.

So after this time I give up, I need you expert help. Do you have any clue what to do?

Best wishes
Simon

Hi Myris, and welcome to SF.

Have you tried another network card in the problem pc as a test?

From Dell or Intel? The reason I ask is Intel normally has newer drivers for Intel hardware.

Also, did you ever set it up to auto negotiate the speed rather than set it for 10 or 100/1GB speed?

Also, can you get to a command prompt, type "ipconfig /all > info.txt" (without the quotes)
and upload info.txt to this forum?

Yes I tried the auto also.

I downloaded the drivers from Intel. I've tried out 3 different drivers, just incase the new ones got baby errors.

I'll post the ipconfig /all, just gonna usb it over to this one. Brb!

Okay, so first you do not have a wireless adapter? At least according to your text.

And, as you indicated, media is disconnected for your NIC.

We can try resetting the winsock protocol:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:(right click on cmd and select "Run as Administrator"

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.
It May require 2-3 reboots

rebooted 5 times now (without reseting the winlock/log each time, but just once) and still media dc.

Such a douchebag NIC.

Agreed. Of course it's possible the NIC is failing.

If it's failing how come it works now and then for hours? I have no clue.

And also, some other guys on some other forums talked about irq fail. What do you think of that?

If you want to be adventurous, burn a Ubuntu Live CD. It does not interfere with your current operating system. You can see if your network card works with another OS. Make sure you select "Try It" for the live version.

Download | Ubuntu

Otherwise, I don't know how to respond to irq failure.

I didn't see--in all that you've tried--that you tried using a different cable--could simply be a bad cable--just a thought...

Hi Tman!
I've tried the other cables in the house that works with the other computers, but no luck.
Thanks for the tip though!

I'll try out that ubuntu idea later if we can't find another solution.

Hi Duzzy and thank you for joining the thread!

There is not light at all when the cable is not detected, and when it is detected it's the usual orange and green lights.

I don't know if the router have any indications if there's a cable plugged in in a computer at that surten port. Can't find the information on the router. Don't have those usual diodes in the front, only a light indicating that the router is turned on.

The Model of my PC is: Dell XPS 420
