Hello All,

I have a problem which I have been having on and off. When I leave my laptop idle for a moment (it does not go to either of sleep/hibernate etc mode) it hangs. I can use the cursor but cannot interact with the system.

I had my laptop repaired and I was having this problem then and now, for the first time after repair, it has surfaced again.

All help be appreciated :)

Every single step in Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 may apply to your problem with hanging, so you should work through them to gather clues and also learn more about Win7 and how to troubleshoot.

In addition on adequate hardware and with a perfect install Win7 never hangs or bogs, so make sure you have a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. If you have factory preinstalled Win7 it is one of the worst installs you can have so at the minimum I'd try to Clean Up Factory Bloatware . Nothing however compares to the Clean Reinstall so you can enjoy Win7's native perfect performance.

If you don't want to do the work then take it to the shop again.

Have you tried testing it with the settings that says "turn off hard disk after" set to never? Hard drive stops spinning when idle due to power schemes, but when you want to wake the hard drive by using the computer, it never wakes thus causing your computer to freeze.

Nope. It's just that your battery drains more when idle since the HDD won't stop spinning. However, I only consider this as last resort. You can try downloading the latest Intel RST which would install the latest Intel AHCI SATA controllers. This may fix the issue of hard drive not waking up.

Well, your IRST may not be the latest version. So try installing the latest from Intel.
