Computer randomly blue screens

May just be a waiting game at this point for when you can afford a new motherboard. I do not know what else to suggest at this time...

I got a new one already, it's installed and it cleared up the random blue screens while doing anything and is now limited to playing games. What I have now is Newegg.com - ASRock 970 EXTREME3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard and before it was Newegg.com - Open Box: ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard perhaps it's my ram timing? neither board says it supports 666mhz (i think this is what I had it's kinda late so I might not be remembering correctly) (however this seems far-fetched to me because for almost a year I had no blue screens but yeah I am FAR from a computer expert so that could have been it.)

Download and install CPU-Z and Upload screenshots of the CPU, Mainboard, Memory, and SPD tabs. In the SPD tab, upload an image of each slot.

Also, go into your BIOS and post all Voltages (CPU, RAM, NB, IMC, etc.) and all RAM settings (timings, frequency, etc.)

For voltages they were all on auto, I haven't messed with the voltages but i'll put the min/max for those that say it.
CPU Load-Line Calibration: Auto1
NB Voltage: Auto. Min=1.110V. Max=1.400V
HT Voltage: Auto. Min=1.210 V. Max= 1.400V
CPU VDDA: Auto. Min=2.56v. Max=2.70V
PCIE VDDA Voltage: Min=1.81V Max=1.92V

After a bit of looking I found the "VDD" and JDEC_1,JEDEC_2 and JEDEC_3 are at 1.50V. There is a area but JEDEC_4 but it is empty. This is the same for all DRAM Slots. I'll post pictures when I get back on my picture in a few minutes.

Manually set the first four timings to 9-9-9-25, and if you can, manually set the frequency to 666 MHz. Bump the NB voltage to 1.2 V and see if the system is more stable.

Okay I got the timings, for frequency the closest I could get was 800 should I put it on that or leave it on auto? And for NB Voltage I couldn't get 1.2V but instead, 1.195V or 1.210V (there were higher and lower but these two are the closest).

AMD processor memory controllers have issues with 800 MHz and higher frequencies, so Auto would be best. 1.21 V for the NB Voltage.

So I haven't gotten the chance to test it for very long yet, however during the little time I have gotten to I've only been getting lockups in Diablo 3 (They are caused by my internet, not my computer though)

That's good news, I think. What do you mean by the lockups are caused by the internet, though?

I asked several friends and they said that when they get disconnected from Blizzards servers their computers lock up in the same fashion mine does, they can still move their mouse and talk on ventrillo but the game is otherwise frozen

Yeah I should be able to put it through it's normal routine when my family leaves and I can play again without being rude!

Well it was doing it again. But a different game (Tribes Ascend) was locking up in the same fashion as Diablo (even on local games) which leads me to believe that it isn't my internet causing the lockups. The last two times it blue screened (only two this morning) it didn't say that it created the dump report. I'll post the new reports in hopes of it actually doing it without saying so.

I have similar freezing issues on my AMD card, though they are not as frequent as yours. It may be related. Mine started when I updated my driver to 12.3. See if 11.9 provides you with better stability.

1. Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
2. Click Start Menu
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click Uninstall a program
5. For NVIDIA:
   • Uninstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver (this should uninstall all NVIDIA software and drivers)
   • Restart your computer
   • Make sure NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver, NVIDIA 3D Vision Video Player, NVIDIA HD Audio Driver, and NVIDIA PhysX System Software are not still listed under Uninstall a program through Control Panel
   • If any remain of the above, uninstall one at a time
   • If asked to restart after uninstalling any of the above, do so, and continue uninstalling any remaining NVIDIA items until all are removed
6. For AMD:
   • Uninstall AMD Catalyst Install Manager if it is listed (this should remove all AMD graphics software and drivers)
   • If AMD Catalyst Install Manager is not listed, use the following method to uninstall the graphics drivers (this applies to onboard graphics, as well):
     1. Click Start Menu
     2. Right Click My Computer/Computer
     3. Click Manage
     4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
     5. Expand Display adapters
     6. Do the following for each adapter (in case you have multiple display cards)
        • Right click the adapter
        • Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
        • Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
        
        Alternatively:
        1. Login as an adminstrative user
        2. Click Start Menu
        3. Click Control Panel
        4. Click Hardware and Sound
        5. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
        6. Expand Display adapters
        7. Do the following for each adapter (in case you have multiple display cards)
           • Right click the adapter
           • Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
           • Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
   • Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
   • Install the driver you selected for the display cards once Windows starts

Okay well switching to 11.9 drivers didn't work, I got another BSOD. It didn't feel anymore stable, crashed within 20 minutes of playing. It locked up twice then it blue-screened. Should I switch back to the most recent AMD Drivers or just stay with these?

Did you happen to catch the code of the blue screen? No .dmp files are being generated, and the system logs do not give the bugcheck code either.


Go ahead and install the most recent drivers. See if this is possibly a startup program or service conflict. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

Also, monitor temperatures and see what they reach prior to a crash.


Can you borrow a graphics card or use a spare to see if the card is at fault?

I'll take a picture of it next time it blue screens. I'll keep a eye on temps and sadly, I cannot borrow anyone's graphics card all of my friends have computers with integrated graphics or laptops.

I understand about not being able to borrow from a friend. That would be the best option, but we'll have to diagnose the best we can without it. Let us know the temperatures during the tasks that typically cause crashes when you get a chance.
