Confused - Permissions Documents & Pictures

I am baffled. I was used to XP whereby the right pane off the Start button would typically show you 'My Documents', 'My Pictures' and 'My Music', among others. You could click on My Documents and within the Explorer screen that displayed would be folders for both My Pictures and My Music. You could click on either of those folders and you would see the exact same thing as if you had clicked on Music or Pictures from the right pane.

So I'm helping a friend who purchased a new ASUS laptop after his old Gateway laptop totally died. I remove the hard drive from the laptop, hook it up to a USB HD caddy and plug it into his laptop and it shows up as a G: drive.

Now maybe I screwed this up by doing things in the wrong order, but first I went into his picture file on the G: drive and copied it to the Pictures library on C:. Then I did the same thing with Music. Then I remembered that he told me he had some documents that he wanted copied as well so I copied the entire Document file from G: to C:.

Now, on his new laptop, if I click Start\Pictures everything looks fine. Ditto for Start\Music. Bur if I go to Start\Documents I have 2 entries for My Pictures. 2 for My Music and 2 for My Videos. In each case one of the entries has a picture of a lock next to it, and the other has a white box with a blue arrow curving upward. The folder with the locks are dated 2009 with the ones with the blue arrows have todays date. NONE of the 6 folders are accissible.

So what's the deal? Do I just delete those folders from the Documents folder? Can I delete them? Do I have to change permissions? I've tried to change Permissions on the locked items without success. I get C:\Users\Public\Documents\My Music is not accessible. Access is denied.
