Irrelevant then. The OP did not inquire about anything from AMD.

i7 is faster but I know here in the uk its also substantially more expensive so i5 is probably the better buy unless you have money to burn. But value for money i5 wins for sure.

Also the i5 has onboard pci express processing so may actually work out better for gaming.

IMO, It really depends on your approach to pc building. Are you budget minded or do you spend to get the best? I am limited in the amount of money I can spend so i7's at this time are out of reach for me. But if you can afford it I would go i7 purely looking at future expandability.

I'll throw my Newegg opinion in also. I use the reviews and often do help in my decision on what product to purchase. I always look for someone who has had the product for more than a month and I look at every negative review no matter what. I add a review to every product I purchase after running each product through it's paces. I have yet to have anything that I have been unhappy with. I owe that partly to the reviews I read.

If you have a MicroCenter nearby you can snag a Core i7 920 for $199. (I don't think you get that price online from them. And yes, I know that won't help our friends in the UK...)

You'll still pay more for an X58 chipset board, though.

"The mainboard infos state that it is compatible with my Pentium D (mine is the D805). According to one reviewer 'The MINIMUM FSB for the board is 200MHz.', which isn't mentioned anywhere on your webpage or the manufacturers manual. The Pentium D805 needs 20X133MHz FSB= 2666MHz, so @200MHz FSB it would be operating @ 4GHz!!! Miraculously my processor (and other hardware) wasn't damaged in the process. Just thought I'd add that I found a review on some DDR2-800 (4GB dual channel kit) on NewEgg. Some guy gave the product 1 egg. Why? Because he said this won't work on his Dell Vostro with a Core i7. Yes, the review did show that he purchased the product as well.

crazy, i5 750 is more then that in the uk, i7 is probably twice that price.

i7 920 £216

hmm that 920 is down in price actually, the i5 now seems overpriced in comparison.

i7 975 only 600mhz faster £850 hahaha, intel on drugs?

still uk prices still about 50% higher than the usa.
