Data Redundancy Check ? - [Unsolved]

Hello Guys (again),

Yet again I'm faced with another issue with the "Data Redundancy Check" problem... I've read around google about the problems and what could cause it, usually it's the CD/DVD or the disc drive itself.

For CDs and DVDs, the problem is a little different. Normally, when CD/DVD drives get a CRC message from a disc, they try to read the disc again - hence the grinding sound. After several failed attempts, they give up and display the redundancy check error. The problem can be hardware (loose cables, failing drive), software or damaged media. In most cases checking and cleaning the disc is the easiest way to overcome the problem. If different clean discs produce the same error, it is likely to be a hardware issue (check the discs in another drive). Another common cause of these errors is poorly burnt CDs and DVDs - especially those that had numerous or severe buffer underuns. USB burners suffer from this problem when the burn speed is too high (generally above 4X-8X)

This reads the entire file by copying it "nowhere". If this succeeds, the problem is not actually with the file itself, but the location you were trying to copy it to. My recommendation would be to copy it to a different disk entirely, or a different machine on your local network.

I'm just wondering as I get this error from my HDD (no discs), if it could indeed be my harddrive causing the redundancy errors? I've replaced the leads that connect the HDD's to the motherboard and haven't came accross the error (yet) as I haven't installed Windows 7, but before I continue I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas?

P.S: I've recently reinstalled Windows Server 2003 as it's the only setup that I can get to work without coming accross the CRC error. From there, I run the setup.exe (Windows 7) directly from my HDD which usually works however when I try from my CD on any drive I come accross the error at 2% of copying windows files.

Hey,

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately having no success... I've just tried to reinstall my Windows 7 from BIOS and it's still recieving the same problem which leaves me wondering that their is a posibility that the fault could be on my Hard Drive. I've tried multiple disc drives and it's still not having it, I've replaced the cables from the main board to the HDD's... Still nothing, so I'm honestly exhausted and really just looking to replace my HDD in the near future.

Sorry for the late reply, simply given up too early I guess... I'm about to run the HDD Diagnostic tool as I already have the ISO on two discs as I thought it could've been the disc the first time around. Anyhow, I'll go and see if it works and get back to you shortly.

Hello,

I've just checked the website that you sent me and I'm having no luck. I'm using a Maxtor HDD as my main drive and have downloaded the files that're specified under the Maxtor catagory, only to be left dazed from them. The first option gives me an application that requiers a 3.5" Floppy Disc which frankly even I don't use any longer and don't even have the floppy drive onboard. The second one provides an ISO which includes two files but neither of them have extensions so I don't know what to do with them. And the other two I haven't tried yet but I doubt I'll have any luck.

Try SeaTools for DOS.

SeaTools | Seagate

Same deal - burn ISO to CD; boot with CD.

Be sure BIOS firing order looks at DVD drive 1st.

Hey,

Sorry for the late reply again I've been busy recently so my computer isn't my main priority. Anyhow, my harddrive is developed by Maxtor so I don't think a Seagate diagnostic tool will work however I'm willing to give it a go so I'll get back to you shortly on the results and let's hope they're positive.

I've just ran the test and it's saying that the test has failed due to a bad sector. No doubt this is what's causing all my data redundancy errors... Now I'm best off replacing my hard drive, correct?
