l believe l have asked this before but never got a definitive answer.

basically l just heard a device detection sound and lve no clue what was detected, and l just wanted to know what it was as it might have something to do with my bsod issue (tho it was more likely ram but thats another thread).

either way l would like to know what was detected and find out if its a piece of faulty hardware.

Usually it's any type of USB device that is either being disconnected or being rediscovered. There's some settings in Power Options to shut down devices and that may be what is happening, especially if trying to read a USB Thumb/Flash drive, external HDD, camera, keyboard, mouse, printer, etc. Could be the power saving feature of a USB printer doing it.

thats sorta the point, l only currently have 4 usb devices connected those being a wireless adapter, usb keyboard/mouse and an external sound card.

now l wouldnt expect the sound to be what its detecting since lve never known a system to play a sound before the device is picked up, l was using the mouse and the wireless had connected to my router which leaves the keyboard. but l doubt it was that.

other than those devices lve got nothing else connected. which is why l wanted to know what was detected..

just noticed this in the event viewer "The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
UsbCharger" l dont have a usb charger it might be the thing that caused the detection.

l'll look into that avenue, and contact gigabyte, a basic search does reveal some crap about charging phones faster or something but l found nothing on the online specs regarding it.

however its the only usb related thing l found in the logs around the time l heard something being detected (with no idea what it was).

thats if the detection sound l heard was that.. dont usually hear the sound for some reason (well at least not from my front ports, not heard it once when connecting thumb drives and externals which makes it weird).

either way l hope l find out soon because l hate not knowing what it is.

thought ld update this topic. just head the sound again.. remembering earlier when it happened and my keyboard stopped working for a second while typing.. just wiggled the keyboard cable and made it happen again. looks like l need to contemplate replacing my keyboard again.. this was the same thing that happened to my previous keyboard.

usually it stated a solid 130mbps now it fluctuated between 140 to 35mbps which seems to slow some things down when browsing/downloading. most l seem to be downloading is is 2mbps on my PC when it really fluctuates but it does go higher sometimes when the connection seems more stable but my laptop seems to be able to push that to touching 4mbps download speeds.

on a completely unrelated note, been looking at keyboards, decided to get a cheaper one without bells and whistles so to speak, lve always loved multimedia keyboards for some unknown reason but never really use the buttons lol, lm guessing the microsoft mouse and keyboard centre wont work properly for a non-MS product, which means l'll likely uninstall it. that leaves one question, is there software out there that can disable keys like the Caps Lock? occasionally l hit it while typing and it annoys the hell outta me when l do so id like to see if there is some form of third party software that will disable the key.

with regards to the keyboard, thats what l thought.. however l was hoping to be recommended a tool rather than just get some random one found via a google search as obviously not all sites these days are as trustworthy as sevenforums has proven to be.

now to wait until l get paid, its been a ruddy tight couple of weeks.. looking forward to sorting out my keyboard and wireless (hopefully) got a free next day delivery token from ebuyer due to how DPD shafted me when l ordered my parts for my current PC build (turns out my new SSD drive travelled over 1000miles to get to me.. l guess it wanted to vote in the scot referendum lol, because thats where it first ended up then took a further week to get to me from birmingham.. excuse l got was the van broke down - l had my say on their facebook page told them they should call the AA not push the ruddy van all the way to my house from birmingham).

sharp keys is a program? would prefer to use a program rather than registry editing.. granted l think l can do it but lm hoping not to delve into something l dont completely understand. thats if the windows keyboard centre doesnt pick up the keyboard and allow me to do it from there.

sorry, l thought you were just talking about the reg edits.. didnt scroll down as far as the program :p

guess l'll try that one out of the MS keyboard and mouse center doesnt like the new keyboard (when l get it) not going for bells and whistles this time, just a basic £4 keyboard l can use to put text on my screen LOL. in any case this forum has always lead to trustworthy answers compared to many others so appreciate the help, just gotta get paid first.

on another note, l didnt mention before.. back before my bios update.. while l was hearing what has turned out to be my keyboard detecting (likely an issue inside the cable near the keyboard itself, not the first keyboard thats developed this issue) before when connecting thumb drives/externals l never got the sound of the device being detected when l turned them on until the bios had been updated so maybe my usb issues are fixed (tho l do get a driver error when l connect usb externals in event viewer but it doesnt seem to be anything to worry about since l wouldnt have known anything about it if l had not been trying to track down logs of my wireless issues).
