I saw a similar thread here with the solution of increasing the idle clock speed of your GPU: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/38277-windows-7-radeon-hd-5770-a-14.html

I am having very similar problems where my graphics card driver seems to crash all the time when I'm doing thing that don't stress the GPU. This started happening after I added 8 GB of memory that I bought recently. The thing is I can't find a way to edit the idle clock speed of my GPU in the new CCC. I have tried using the 11.12 and 12.1 and its the same thing. In my C:\Users\{YourUserName}\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\ folder I noticed that the profiles.xml file is what has the CoreClockSpeed option but I can't seem to edit it (I open it and change the numbers but when I save it gets reverted right away). Is there a different way to do this in the new CCC or is it possible that there is a different problem ? Thanks for the help.

try changing the clock speed with afterburner
MSI Afterburner
and about CCC ,its odd have you tried uninstalling CCC and then wiping all traces of it then reinstalling it?

Hmm..

Do you have the latest bios version - 17.G

Are you getting BSODs, or just reboots or lockups?

Is your virtual memory auto or set? If set, change to auto.

No BSODs. No reboots even, just the message that the display driver crashed and restarted successfully. My memory is on auto right now just to make sure that wasn't the problem. I would like to try turning up the idle GPU speed solution but I'm not sure how to go about doing that. I just downloaded afterburner but I only see a max GPU clock speed setting, nothing to let me set what it idles at. I'll keep looking maybe I missed it.

Alright so I finally got this working, I guess I just wasn't using the new "presets" option in the CCC correctly but I finally just followed the directions in my first link and raised my idle clock speed. So far it has fixed my problem with the driver not responding. Thanks everyone!
