Hi Guys, Just wondering do any of you use DVD ripping software? if you do what software do you use? any recommendations? I need something that works with both windows 7 and windows XP.

Here is my issue, I never tried ripping before, but I have a PC machine hooked up to my LCD TV to watch movies, but no DVD player on the machine, just a CD player. so to watch DVDs I make an ISO image off the origional DVD on my main PC, then put it on a USB Stick, and watch it on the PC , I map the drive with MagicIso, the PC thinks it's a real DVD.

I'm mainly interested in Ripping DVD Movies to AVI or DivX, because the DVD ISO Image is usually really large like upto 5 GBs in some cases, but I don't want to loose resolutions or quality of the movie, any recommendations on Ripping Software I could use? I don't mind Paid software as long as there is a trial so I can play with it and see if it works for me, but free software is preferable I guess.

Thanks for your help!

hi guys, I tried DVD Ripper on my PC and it works great, but a tad slow but it did the job. but the other day I was at my friends house, and was asked to rip a small sony DVD to their laptop running vista. I forgot which program I used and I didn't have much time to think, I forgot which program I used on my PC, so I did a bit of googling and tried both DVD Shrink and handbrake, here is what happened:

with DVD Shrink, the only option I saw was to use the backup option, in 20 minuts I had two folders, video_ts and audio_ts, this resulted in many files in both folders and I was not sure which ones to keep and which ones to throw, additionally there seems to be 2 VOB files as well, each of them around 700MB which is around half of the size of the DVD which was 1.4GB ( it was a mini DVD). since I didn't have time to play around, I decided to give up and use something else, so I tried Handbrake next, it seemed easy to use and I requested a single AVI as the output, it said that it needs to do 2 tasks, the first one was only 20 minuts, but the second one was 1h !! can you beleave that.. it was a fairly new laptop so I don't know why it was taking so long, for a 1.4GB DVD.. is that normal? it was a toshiba saltelite, fairly new one. I had to leave their house but I told them where the AVI file is located ( desktop lol ) and I hope it works...

I am partial to the SlySoft package. I have no knowledge if the aforementioned apps will bypass copy protection, but AnyDVD will. Shrink as well as copy DVD/CD. $100 lifetime.
