"Ethernet" Connection Drop

A while back I posted about my network connection problems, and steps I've taken to resolve them. Since then, I've moved and thus acquired a new service provider. I've also installed a Netgear WPN311 RangeMax Wireless PCI Network Adapter in place of my wired Realtek.

My connection has performed flawlessly with the new wireless adapter, except for one thing. I installed NOD32 Antivirus v4 and it caused my connection to drop almost every 24 hours. I went back to NOD32 v3, and all is well.

I doubt everyone here is running NOD32, and I realize that, but if you have a security suite installed maybe try uninstalling it as simply disabling NOD32 on my computer didn't work.

Thanks for posting that, I've been having constant connection drops, and the rare few times I could connect, My connection was cripled, even after two clean installs, After reading your post, I took a chance and Uninstalled my antivirus, Avast, and installed Avira, I've had no connection problems since than and my download speeds are back in the 700-1000KBps range.

I still don't think AVG is at yhe root of these problems.

Today I got my first connection drop with WinXP driver, and I wasn't able to revive it by disabling-renabling the card. I had to reboot. I will look for the newest driver, but I don't think it is the good driver for my card (8139).

Edit:
No driver is available for my 10/100 mbit card. Currently trying the latest driver (2008-10-21) and the disabled network mapping trick.

Wow I spoke too early! I just had my worst Ethernet connection drop! I had to reboot 2 times and when I was going to plug my USB Ethernet adapter, it decided to work again.

I think I will just buy a PCI 10/100 card, USB not being as solid as direct communication.

That looks like a Realtek one too you may have to steer clear of Realtek untill they come up with proper drivers for there cards

That is a shame... your mobo is not supported in Vista nor Win7. Now that might be part of the reason.

The difference with the card I linked is that there is a driver FOR windows 7.

I can't find any driver on Realtek.com for the 8139 I got.

I think I'll give it a try.

I don't think my mobo is the issue here. I got the 865PE chipset and it's very standard.

As I shut down my Main computer that has a Realtek Nic

Turned on My Laptop that has an Intel Nic

But it still had the problem

So it may be a Win 7 problem

My main Computer has X64

My Lap has x86

Come on all of you guys with computer brains what's causing this

Any up dates on the Drop out problem

I have done some testing

I have 2 computers

one with a Realtek Nic & x64 Win 7 Ultimate

& one with a Intel Nic & x86 Win 7 Ultimate

If I shut down the Realtek computer

& Run the Intel one & the problem still persists

I haven't reinstalled the firmware on my router yet but time is getting very close now

You might make sure that all NIC (USUALLY YOU HAVE 2) devices are check under power management - NOT TO ALLOW TURNOFF TO SAVE POWER.

Adapter #1 is the NIC adapter,
Adapter #2 is the modem adapter.
Yes, the stupid modem will also KILL your system
Use it or not... it still is there.

I just signed up and have the same problem on two different W7 computers. However on each one Vista runs fine.

Computer 1:
W7 - 64 bit, keep loosing connections to the internet using onboard Realtek 8111 Lan, tried multiple driver with no resolution. Went out and bought a D-Link PCI add in card and still had the same problem.

I even bypassed my Linksysy router and the same problem ocurred.

Computer 2:
W7 - 32 bit. keep loosing connection using Realtek 8111 on boards Lan, Tried multiple different drivers without success.

My conclusion is that there a bug in W7 that has to do with Ethernet adapters. Hopefully some answers come to the surface soon.

Everyone of us use Ethernet Adapters. I do not have the same problem.
even my wife that is a emailer only does not have that problem.
PS: I do use Authentic Windows 7 ISOs. DO you.?

Maybe not everybody using Windows 7 has networking problems, but there are certainly many users out there reporting LAN disconnects with Windows 7.

Here's my setup:
Asus P5B motherboard with on-board Realtek LAN card

The PC works fine under Windows XP, but I get disconnections, especially when the LAN card is idle, under Windows 7 (build 7100).

I have tried all possible software, driver, and configuration solutions I found on the web, to no avail.

So I decided to go the hardware way and bought a good Intel LAN card and disabled the on-board card. This did not solve the problem under Win7, but the PC still works flawlessly under Windows XP.

One workaround I found is to have a media player constantly playing streaming radio. That way the connection drops much less frequently.

My conclusion is that Windows 7, in combination with some specific hardware (maybe the chipset of the motherboard, maybe the type and/or firmware of the internet router) will disconnect when the network is idle for some seconds.

Any help or comments will be greatly appreciated.

With 30,000 views and over 400+ replies this is much more then a corrupt ISO.

I've tried mutliple versions of W7, multiple PC's, multiple different ethernet adapters and drivers and even bypassed my router.

However all of the above works flawlessly with Vista.

There must be something in the W7 OS that handles ethernet differently or get's corrupt. Maybe it's in combination with other MB components like chip set. The only other thing it could be is some W7 incompatability with my broadband supplier's upstream hardware.

I hope this get's sorted out quickly after launch but until it does W7 is a showstopper for me.

I actually think your problem is - YOU HAVE A CORRUPT - HACKED - VERSION OF WIN 7. WHILE YOUR USING A LEGIT VERSION OF VISTA.

Im sure I do not have all the same different systems you have but I can find several ppl that have similar to you. POST your SPECS. and lets us try an help.

PS: If your Win 7 version is not LEGIT then so be it.. there are many many illegal versions of Win 7 that are available for DL that do not pass verification. Sorry that your version seems to be.
