excessive cpu usage

Last night I rebooted and all was fine. Also, it may have to do with waking up from sleep mode. I disabled sleep mode and when I checked it this morning, it had normal (aka what you would expect given the software that was running) CPU utilization. I'll check again at lunch if I have time, and if I can I'll post new screenshots of the task manager and process explorer to give you something to compare to. I'll look into IRQ software if it shows signs of relapsing into ridiculous CPU utilization again.

Ok, I have the same problem as it is described here. But another issue: My wlan(win7 drivers, but ralink drivers doesnt fix anything) connection terminates exactly at the time the CPU utilization goes up.

Windows 7 7100 clean install. Windows XP/Vista works perfect.

Disabling sleep mode "seems" to have fixed it for 2 days in a row now. Will let you know if there was a 3rd golden "DPC" free day tonight.

Got home today, still no re-occurrence of the CPU pegging. I'm not questioning it at this point.

I downloaded RC 1 direct from MS, burned to DVD and installed on a fresh install of Vista (again, I just purchased this PC 4 days ago and didn't install anything besides Age of Conan, XFire, and Mozilla prior to the Win 7 upgrade).

did everyone here miss this lil tidbit of information here? Highly doubt that sleep mode would have done any "pegging" that you have spoke of. Tho the suggestions as to drivers and hardware, specifically hardware that doesnt have a driver. This is very rampant with problems with network cards that dont have a correct driver, and goes the same for other hardware. My guess is that somehow you got whatever problematic driver corrected. This happens if you leave it responding to microsoft, cross your fingers, put on a sombrero and do the cha cha happy driver download dance.

Don't think drivers are the issue considering the fresh install of Vista was on an HP box straight out of the box. Pretty sure they include all the drivers. Anyways, sleep mode is out as about an hour ago it did the DPC peggerometer again. Reboot fixed it but it is weird how there was seemingly no triggering event (possibly closing netflix's IE window? but that didn't immediately precede the DPC). Guess I'll just deal with rebooting every day or couple days. *sigh*

*EDIT*Did you mean I need to update drivers for Win7? Besides what was included in the Win7 install, the only thing I've updated is NVidia drivers and installed DX10. I guess that could be it? *ENDEDIT*

does not matter...
drivers can be buggy at any moment (they do have their rare times when they just keep looping (which is what i believe is happening) in a piece of code in the drivers)...
its always good thing if you are having problems with interrupts/slowdowns not expected then it is good to check for bios and drivers...:)
and is this a clean install?

Took the tower out of the box. Downloaded Win7RC 64bit from MS. Installed. Updated NVidia drivers, downloaded mozilla and the games (mozilla is the only thing that has seen serious use yet due to the DPC problems). About as clean as you can get as far as I can tell. Is there anyway to check my drivers all at once? It's been quite awhile since I've dealt w/ IRQ's or drivers that weren't either a)wireless card for laptop or b)video card, or c) (now that I think about it) macbook pro windows drivers supplied by Apple. Drivers do seem like a good thought considering interrupts are part of the problem. Possible DPC's are driver related too?
