File permissions for individual user folders, program install errors

I'll keep that for reference. It might have saved me a couple of hours (copying to the same HDD is slow, moving almost instantaneous) but I'm happy everything is working again.

I told you to do copy instead of move...... because.... it forces new user (user that does the copy) to become the owner. Because they are new created files, only inhereted permissions will be active.

It's just like you copy files normally or download from internet.

Indeed move was easier. And change owner and permissions afterwards.

But..... new user doesn't have read access to old user files!! So can't be moved!

So you had to change permissions on old user files first.

Best way was to copy..... it keeps old account in same state.

Thanks for the additional explanation.
I'm not sure that is entirely accurate though: I forgot that drag&drop on the same HDD results in move (whereas drag&drop between HDDs results in copy) and did that with my first batch of files. I found no impediment. I moved them back then copied them over to be safe.
