Have you tried the add-on compatibility reporter?

Have you tried editing the add-on's .rdf file?

C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile Name>\extensions\<add-on ID>\install.rdf

Working out which ID belongs to which add-on can be tricky though.

Many add-ons include a line like this (this has been edited to say FF7):

<em:maxVersion>7.0.0</em:maxVersion>

You should also edit the add-on's version number and make it larger (to prevent the auto-updater from replacing it).

You may also need to edit:

C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile Name>\extensions.rdf

Make up a backup of your profile BEFORE you try it though.

Use the Compatibility Reporter 0.8.5 which allows your addins to continue to run in FF 5.0 even if not officially compatible and allows you to report issues with said add-ons.

I had two add-on's reported as not compatible but they continue to work after the upgrade.

Mozilla kills security updates for Firefox 4

When Mozilla launched Firefox 5 yesterday, there were no mentions of security updates for Firefox 4. And for good reason: Mozilla is treating Firefox 5 as 4′s final security update.

My only issue with Firefox 5 concerns Windows 7 jumplists --


I have my Firefox icon pinned to the taskbar, and get a jumplist of recently visited sites, just like with IE....but, with IE, I can click on a "pinned" site (one that's pinned to my jumplist), IE opens, and I go on my merry way. With Firefox 5, I click on a pinned site, and nothing happens....the program will not open. Is that normal, or something wrong with either my Windows install or FF 5?

You don't know how unhappy that makes me. I know they just released an update to 3.6 luckily, but that might just be the last one. I don't want to use FF5...guess it is time to find a new browser.

I must confess: I don't like Firefox-Look-Like-Chrome update process too.
But I have to acknowledge that significant progress has been made between versions 3 and 5. Why do not you give Firefox 5 a chance?

Aside from the graphics change, it works just fine (if not better than 3.6).

All I see in this thread is bitching, whining, and complaining about how pissed they are that Mozilla is being progressive and actually updating their products.
Specifically about the FF5 update as the "final" "security" update for FF4, you do realize they look EXACTLY the same? I am sure you don't since you haven't installed it to TRY the damn thing before bitching and switching to a new browser.

Nicely said. You get a lot of that on the internet. Someone asks a question of doing something in a program and half the post are people slamming the product. If you don't like a product, don't use it and I also don't need to know you hate it. Just move on.
