Flash CS4 Doesn't work with Windows 7 x64

Hello everyone,

I've browsed everywhere on the net, and all I find is people saying that Adobe creative suite CS4 works on Windows 7 x64. Well, it does, except one part. Flash CS4!

I was wondering if anyone found a work around to this? I have already tried running in XP compatibility mode, and no luck.

I really don't want to use the x86 version of windows 7 as I'll lose 1gb of ram in the process, and definitly don't want to dual boot, as i'm usually just doing things on my computer, and randomly see my flash icon, and decide I wanna do a little programming in Actionscript for a half hour or so.

Yes, I know I can get Flex, or another IDE, however, I like the convience of in Flash CS4, as inferior as it may be to Flex, of hitting ctrl enter, and my program is compiled, and running in front of my face instantly.

I generally compile once every 2 mins to test changes I make while programming, so the Flash CS4 is best for me as I'm a fairly new programmer, and I only know actionscript 3 as of right now.

Has anyone been in a similiar situation, or gotten flash CS4 to work on the 64 bit version of windows 7? TBH i don't even know if flex works on windows 7, i've never tried it, lol but again, the problem with me enjoying instant compiles is why I'm trying to get Flash CS4 to work in the first place, so it really doesn't matter if flex works or not.

Anyway, thanks for any help

Ok. Well I installed Virtual Box and windows xp as a guest. Because VMware you need to buy, however, i find the mouse slittely laggy in response time. I will buy VM if it's better than Virtual Box.

The lag is very little, but precise mouse movements quickly and accruatley are kinda a big deal in design.

What do you think?

My mouse is properly responsive. Did you select a fixed VHD size, or a dynamic one? Sounds like dynamic, which sux IMO. I could not deal with the pervasive stutter.

If you chose dynamic, re-install XP in the VM.

Here is a screenshot of my Adobe Flash CS4 Pro works 100% on my Windows 7 X64 Version 10.0.2
I have Adobe CS4 Master Collection, everything works:) i guess I'm lucky

The GrimReaper and darius2002 should compare Win7 release versions.

He may need to update.

I'm using Windows 7 RC 7100 x64. As for what version of flash CS4, well... i thought it was just CS4, regular old Flash 10. I can't exactly go into the help or about and find out ccasue I can't run the program, lol.

And I did go dynamic, i'll try static in the virtual box now though.

If things do not operate correctly, please provide your build number for further discussion - to make sure we are all on the same page.

My work here is limited to the VM and selecting a fixed VHD size.

When GrimReaper reported that CS4 was working fine for him, my interest was limited to determining if you and he were using the same version of Windows.

You are not. Darius2002 is using an older version that may,or may not, have conflicts with CS4 that have been corrected in build 7600.16385

In my opinion, therefore, if Darius2002 were to update to the same build as me, then he would not have any issues, just like me:)
It is obvious that there were several improvements between build 7100.winmain_win7rc.090421-1700 and my 7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255)
