Flash CS4 Doesn't work with Windows 7 x64

You can't update between 7100 and 7600 as one is rc and one rtm.
At this point you are supposed to pay .

But we have CS4 MC running for some time on Win7 RC x64 without major probs on an Athlon1 x4 4GB-Ram. , NV GS8500 Graphics

Only issue so far is that we have to format Usb sticks on ntfs blocksize 512kb .
Otherwise the fla files will break when saving to them.
But maybe that's not Win7 related.

I guess your Prob is ram as Cs4 is eating it up - even with 4Gb it feels like, there should be more ...

Very strange. In my case, I managed to install and open the beta version of Flash CS4 on my Turion 64 (tl-50 and my W7 is the 7100). When you open an animation in AS3 it stopped working. It is locked. Now work with an AS2 file it works perfect.

The Flash CS3 is normal to use.

You still have to pay, but.
Actually you can do an in-place upgrade from 7100 to the RTM build, you have to edit a "cversion.ini" file to change the minimium version that it will install on.

Ok here's an update. I did not upgrade to 7600, I am still using 7100 RC.

NOTE: this is the x64 bit version. There was no problems with the 32bit version of windows 7, this issue in my Oringinal topic, is 64bit specific.

And, at 4gb of ram, CS4 at least for my machine, doesn't feel like it's lacking ram at all, now that I got in working. The problem after all had nothing to do with the build of Windows 7 x64 that I was using. It was Flash CS4. After reinstalling it, it still didn't work. So since I didn't have a copy of 7600 to try, I went and got Adobe CS4 Master Collection. Since that was the other difference between myself and Reaper.

That did the trick. My original copy of Flash CS4 stand alone would not run, but after installing it from the Master Collection, it works like a charm. There are obviously some differences between THOSE builds. It wasn't windows 7 causing the issue at all.

I have been running Flash CS4 after installing the masters collection for about a week now, without a reboot, or even shutting down Flash CS4 at all. And it's blazing fast.

Shiffsratte, your problem with slowness is not your RAM, it's your Athalon1 cpu, it's not really worth the material it's made out of anymore. Upgrade to a half decent dual core cpu and you'll be fine. And using an original Athalon cpu, then you must also be using an old motherboard, which takes older, slower style ram, probley not even DDR2. The amount of RAM you have doesn't make a big difference if the RAM is slow.

I'll take 1gb of DDR3 over 4+gb of DDR1 anyday. Your machine needs upgrades :)

Fabinho, I wasn't getting a JavaScript error. Whatever your issue was, it wasn't the same as I was having. I program in JavaScript, doesn't mean I know everything, but I'll know if I'm getting JS errors, and usually how to fix them. And I always make sure I'm fully updated and patched on my Adobe products. It was the first thing I did when I installed Flash CS4 on windows 7, just incase there were any windows 7 specific fixes or updates available from adobe.

So thats my story. If you have Adobe Masters Collection, it works, even without patching, if you have the stand alone copy (which is SUPPOSED to be the exact same program) then it won't work. Why i dunno, but it's something Adobe runtime side.

Hope this helps some people out there. Chow!

Sorry that was a typo - should be Phenom1 (a 9600 x4 BE actually:confused: )
but maybe that's nevertheless the Prob.
We are doing lot's of really heavy things with Cs4, so for normal use, 4Gb of ram should be fine

We are using the CS4 mastercollection, too btw.

I installed it just for couriosity on two other machines:
-Athlon x2 4600 4gb ram, Win7 build 7100 x64 german version
-Sempron LE 2100 2Gb ram, Win7 7100 x64 french version

On the Athlon dual core it runs fine, even better as on the Phenom, I got the impression at last. (i've read somewhere that at last CS3 can't gain much from more then one core and it maybe even causes probs sometimes, - don't know about Cs4, as at last PS is in 64bit and feels quite fast)
On the Sempron you can open files in PS or Ai , some fla but if I try to load a video into Premiere it just freezes :D
But thats quite normal I guess as a Semprom is too slow for most video stuff anyway

Stroke color is for spray paint tool .
Click and hold on paint bucket in the tools menu, then it should let you choose between paint bucket and spray paint mode.

Hi Maxman, windows 7 RTM build 7600 we knew worked since the beginning. Before my test, the only question was why doesn't it work on build 7100 RC, and was the problem the build, or Flash CS4 instelf. 7600 worked all along, it's 7100 I was testing. However it turned out that it was not the windows 7 build that was the problem at all as the more experienced members of this forum suggested.

After further research on my part, I figured out it was actually an adobe problem, and that the build 7100 RC performed admirably, as much as the RTM 7600 build in face value anyway. If you install the master collection, there will be no problems.

Hi there
I'm afraid I'll have to challenge your assertion that you've got a 64 bit version of flash working.

Here's a REALLY SIMPLE test

Logon to the BBC's home page with IE8 64 bit.

(BBC - Homepage)

You won't be able to get the digital clock flash app working. (should appear at the top left of the BBC screen). No clock in the 64 bit version of IE8.

Now look at IE8 (32 bit version) ist screenshot. Flash app (digital clock) works fine.

Enc 2 screenshots

Note it's quite a different thing to say that an application WILL execute to saying that all the components within it function correctly.

My BIGGEST complaint with modern IT systems is that nobody ever seems to TEST stuff properly -- just starting an app doesn't mean it works correctly.

So please "screenshot" a GENUINE 64 bit flash application WORKING (not a 32 bit one) so you can enjoy making me eat a bit of "Humble Pie". :D:D

I use 64 bit CS4 (Photoshop) daily and its fine - but AFAIK Adobe STILL haven't released 64 bit Flash yet.

Cheers
jimbo

Wanted to chime in and bump this - I'm running the release of 7 x64, with Flash CS4. Latest update, and legitimate copies of both.

Flash designer is UNUSABLE. Every... single... click takes 5 full seconds to register, clicking twice anywhere brings up a "Not Responding" error. I've checked for latest patches, I'm running an Nvidia 8600GTX with latest drivers. 4GB RAM, Core 2 Quad cpu. Every other application is running full speed in the meantime.

EDIT: it was Kaspersky Internet Security 10. FRIGGIN KASPERSKY that made me lose 4 days of production while I troubleshot my fresh, clean installation of basic office & design software to death. After hours of this (and not that I didn't try to DISABLE Kaspersky but I guess that wasn't enough), only uninstalling it altogether brought everything back to speed.

Ridiculous that something I actually paid for would gimp my PC, and instead I'm now using Microsoft's free antivirus in its place (despite having over a year left on my license). So, so very annoyed.

Oh my god man! You are my hero! You realy are! After losing many days and nights trying to fix this problem you came with the solution!
I don't know why i don't feel mad about the money i spent on KIS licence... actualy i feel very happy because ia can work instead of wait in Flash CS4. It's fast now and i have to thank you for that! So THANK YOU! my friend! THANK YOU! I say it with all my heart!

This issue about KIS and windos 7 x64 should be sticky! It also has a bad influence on AcdSee and i think on search to!

Thank you again and thank you all for the great infos i found here!

Have a nice day!

L.E.:

I have found a fix! Or at least i think so! On the kaspersky lab site is an update that, at least for me, fixed the problem!

http://www.kaspersky.com/kis_latest_versions

Now i have KIS and flas is working fine after the restart.

I don't know, however, how to make kis process to start earlier... now is the klast that starts.

I have all the necessary computer requirements to run flash. In either the Windows 7 (64) or Windows 7 (32) I get dismal performance. This is after trying every compatability mode.
The pencil tool only draws a line after release.
The tool drop downs are slow or unresponsive;
The import video/sound etc doesen't usually work. ie Browse thru a file of mp3's and not see them.
When I use the bone tool in the authoring environment the parts to be moved lag and lag .
I read a fix on how to get the pencil up and running which worked . The writer suggested a person go to "personalize" and then go to Basic and high contrast themes and select Windows Classic.
To be honest with you I think I am about done with PC
