Dear Forum,

I am enquiring as to what the FOUND.000 file is. Somehow it got created sometime yesterday.

I do recollect it being accidentally disconnected via the USB connection.

Is it anything to worry about?

When I go to place the USB External Hard Disk Drive then it asks me to scan and fix.

I have read that this is never a great idea. Any ideas.

Thank you

I believe those can be created when dskchk runs on a drive and finds errors and/or corrupt files.

It appears to be a left over chkdsk fragment and you can delete it, or not, it won't cause any harm.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I am just wondering why it went from an Expansion Drive to a Local Disk.

I have previous shots of it being an Expansion Drive?

Thanks for answering my silly questions

I am sorry to be so stupid - how do you run a chkdsk?

When you plug it in to the USB port does it automatically do it - I do not remember doing anything at that time.

Also I am sorry to be so dumb - the properties of my drive has changed - was an Expansion Drive - now a local disk?\

Sorry that I may be asking basic questions - but one false alteration - I will stuff up my computer

I never did a check disk last night. I did note that the light was going on my External Hard Drive - perhaps it did it automatically.

Interesting reading and great tutorial.

I am only a beginner and I am sorry for asking the most basic questions

I am terribly sorry. I just ended up having to force a close of my computer.

I have noted that the names have gone back to the same and that I may have been worried for nothing.

Not too sure why the change. I gather that next time I accidentally do a dismount from the removable USB External Hard Drive - such things may happen.

I will close this thread and I am terribly sorry for any inconvenience to you lovely people

No inconvenience at all, but you worry too much.;)

If your PC is running OK with no blue screens and such, enjoy it. If you use a USB hard drive you should use the Safely Remove before you pull the plug. This assures the drive is not in use and won't lose data.

Thanks - at least I am a bit less stress free now.

If anything big really happens - like one of my other threads that I have open - I know where to go. I had this lap top for six months and had a BSOD - not my fault - the manufacturer admitted fault.

Is does concern me that I have to at times force a shut down to dismount my External Hard Drives as I am a stress artist and like to wait until it is safe to remove.

I am patient. I am in hospital.

Thanks for all your assistance. Really appreciated. The FOUND.000 can just stay there. Still not too sure about the security options - I changed it to everyone so I could see the contents as per a MS Communities post. Never again.

Thanks

To Britton; I'm not sure you understand the problem. The threadstarter has got this folder and asks what to do with it.

Telling how to avoid it in the future, doesn't help a lot in the case you have this problem.

So, your "solution" is that everybody in the world, always unplugs their USB correctly, and then there will be no more issue.

Really ?

I got an idea to solve the problem on how to get world peace : nobody argues or fight with somebody else.

The concept "issue" seems not be understood by you. Typically, people that understand nothing, are the ones that tend to not worry. IT seems like a bad sector to be in, in that case.

Hey Lukas123 my solutions are sound and worked, if you didn't notice, the thread IS marked Solved, eh? :sarc:

You need to read the thread in its entirety, then perhaps, maybe, possibly, you'd learn something. By the way, this IS over one year old as well.

Yeah bud, if everyone in the world does it correctly, no more problems, kapish?

The request to "scan and fix" is actually a non-technical request to run chkdsk. It happens when a drive is not shutdown properly (internal) or disconnected properly (external), leaving a checkbit set to "dirty". When Windows detects the dirty bit on reconnection of a drive, it asks to scan and fix to clean up any corrupted files or file fragments.

You can manually run chkdsk by opening a command prompt and typing "chkdsk c: /f " without the quotes. c: is the letter of the drive you want to check, the /f switch specifies fix errors found. Here's a more complete description.
