Solved Frequent BSOD crashes

As I am new to this thread, I do not know fully what has already been done, so let me know if you have already done a step.

If the fix-its and registry tweaks do not work, you are left with http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html.

If that still does not resolve it, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164.

Steps 1-3 in the second link may be needed for the repair install, as well. I recommend backing up any important data and getting your license keys together prior to doing the repair install or the clean reinstall just in case something unexpected happens. Repair installs usually succeed without loss of data or programs, but it is best to be safe. Steps 3, 6, and 7 in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 may help.

It was a long slow process, but finally the updates all seem to have worked after a repair install. Many thanks for your help. Bob

Agree with zigzag, Norton caused that last couple of crashes.

If you get another crash, post the full Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions
We need to compare it with previous crashes.
Everything seems to be working well now. Will still keep watching for a couple more days, then if all is well I will add more apps. Only crash happened whilst computer baulked whilst repairing .NET Framework. All updates now installed OK.:D:D:D

@Bob, glad that your computer is running better now.

It seems to be running OK, but I have hardly added any new software to it. I will gradually return some of the apps and see if it remains stable. Have had a couple of BSODs, but think they are related to issues I was having at that time. Had to replace router (ADSL2+ & voip) after being unable to log in to it, and was also having major issues with Nodephone voip at the same time. Since discovered the voip looks like being problem with phone's wireless base station, and the login problem with router may have been a network one, rather than the router. Anyway whilst setting up new router, PC had a funny turn and crashed, but has run perfectly for last few days since then.

Just my recent experience with BSOD.

Random Bsod's and Black screens, rebooting etc. Tried everything on the web except changing hardware, BSOD'S STARTED TO GET WORSE 6+ A DAY (ambient temperature rose seasonally). then as a last resort went into bios and switched off smart fan control and presto no BSOD'S etc, (fan was running at low revs before). Downloaded speedfan and controlled the fan from there as a temporary measure. I realised I had disturbed heatsink a few weeks previous (removed fan for cleaning). Will now have reseat cooler with artic silver. hope this helps. cheers! :D

Well, it's been a while since I last posted, but still get BSOD crashes, and reports more often than I would expect to. Lately Windows hangs on shutdown. I then let it sit, with no activity on the shutdown screen (no rotating symbol), and it will eventually have a BSOD, or I force it to shutdown by holding the power button. not a good situation to keep going. Can you help again, please? Let me know what to submit on the forum. ps it is an absolutely glorious spring day in Adelaide. You should all be here! (then I'd let you fix my PC before you go for a walk on the beach:cool:) EDIT: have added SF diagnosis zip.

Or you may install a firewire card.

But, you need to Free up the startup , too.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.

I have completed above. Had to reselect some startup items, particularly keyboard/mouse, and backup. I still cannot shutdown or restart. It begins shutdown then freezes for some time. It will eventually crash. Can anyone help me with that problem? websearches seem to only bring up software apps.

Still having BSOD crashes, and the inability to shutdown. When I attempt to shutdown, it seems to get to the point of switching off the HDD, but then hangs until I do a hard shutdown. Here's the latest SF data.

Hi folks. Am having problems with BSOD again. Still having problem with failure to shutdown. Here is todays SF diagnostic. Looks as if I am having some problem with Memeo Premium Backup (to external USB3 hard drive H). But there are probably other issues.

Update the firmware of your OCZ-VERTEX3 SSD.

For the discs other than the SSD, do some disc checks.

  1. Reseat the sata and power.
    72974453_zps85c47d93.jpg
  2. Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
  3. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
Marvell storage controllers. Always problematic, and it is very old here.
