Hey guys,

I started up an old computer today so that I could clean install Windows 7 on it and give to a family member. When I turned the computer on, the screen got stuck displaying the Intel Motherboard screen (logo screen) and did not go any further. So I tried restarting the computer and entering the BIOS by pressing "delete". It gave me another screen that displayed some info about the board and memory, and on the bottom it said that it was trying to enter "SETUP". That's where it stopped. I basically have no clue what to do now since I cant even reach the BIOS, much less select the boot device to install Windows.

If anybody has any information that could help me it would be greatly appreciated. If you need pictures to clear things up about what I am seeing, just let me know. In any case I'll try to have them up when I get some.

Thanks in advance.

Try this:
  1. Unplug the mains power
  2. Open the case, and locate a jumper in the lines of "CLR_CMOS", or something similar.
  3. Change the jumper to the "CLEAR" position
  4. Plug the mains back in, and try to switch on. At this point it should not switch on at all.
  5. Remove the mains plug again
  6. Reset the CLR_CMOS jumper back to it's default position
  7. Plug the mains back in
  8. Try switching on
If the above fails, chelc also that all other cables and power connectors are properly seated. If possible, test the CD/DVD drive and the hard disk in another computer to eliminate them as the cause of the boot lock.

OK, reseating the memory did not work.

As far as the BIOS config jumper it says that the jumper on pins 1-2 is normal, pins 2-3 is config, and jumper off is recovery. Would you be talking about recovery?

Oh wow, I had that same problem on my laptop back with RC (Build 7100).

Only way around it was to unplug my hard drive, boot with the install DVD, plug my hard drive in it before it finishes booting up the DVD, then doing another clean install.

Hope that helps. Could be a bit different for you. :|

-

I should also add, that doing another clean install this way, solved the issue you mentioned in your first post (freezing at BIOS logo with the setup button info at the bottom of the screen)

first thing I'd ask What is the machine you are trying to access the BIOS .
Delete is not normal. Model and name appreciated - Gads I do hate to GUESS .

I've had a number of machines where delete is the key to enter the BIOS...either that or F2

Sorry about that, I was looking at the BIOS jumper not the CMOS jumper. I found where the clear CMOS jumper should be but it is just solder, there is no jumper there....

Everything worked great! Only problem is that I tried out a version of Windows 7 called Tiny7, made by eXPerience. In short, bad eXPerience... so I'm going to put regular ol' Windows 7 x86 on it and hope all goes well.

Thanks for everybody's help.
