Here's my BSOD problem :)

Okay, got the new versions of the info -- although, I'm guessing that the dump files or such, they overwrote the ones from the first BS and maybe from the second right after. I don't know, but not much I can do about it, I guess.

Lois

Ok, this one showed some new stuff:

I gather you have smartware on, it's causing trouble. Some 20 menstions in 2011 alone...

follow this thread to remove it:
How to uninstall WD SmartWare from Windows (7, Vista, or XP) and Mac OSX (10.4, 10.5, and 10.6),

I did the second one, but the first one - would you happen to know if I'll still be able to access/use my external hard drive, since I think that program is related to it?

That should not be a problem. WD Smartware should not 'run the disk and make it available to you in explorer for example'. It is an extra utility which sometimes causes problems. I would completely remove. Once you've found your real problem and have proven WD Smartware to not be the issue... re-download from Western Digital. That way you'll also be sure to have the latest...

Well, I was waiting a bit as to not jinx it, but so far so good -- no freezing, no BS's... I uninstalled the program, and for the heck of it, restarted, just to make sure the thing realizes the program isn't there anymore. And it's been on without any problems since. Well, I also haven't done major stuff like video just yet, but figure one thing at a time. Though I did have some streaming video go for a while as I was watching the astronauts land in Florida. Anyway, also something else -- for ages, for what seems to be since I got this computer, but that might not be accurate, on startup, I always had this darn folder open up. Think to Program Files. But it never actually did anything, it was just always an annoyance, I'd x out of it, no big deal. When I went to restart it after uninstalling this morning, it apparently didn't come up. Not sure if it's connected or what, or even if it will return again, but that was a surprise. But so far, so good... really hoping you never have to hear from me again... but who knows, might have just jinxed it. LOL

PS - I was going to try shutting down my antivirus program today as a test; last night I realized that it seemed like when the problems start in the day when this all began, it was around the time my AVG was set to go off to scan. That's at 10:30 am... but I am pretty sure that it wasn't always around then, maybe before, but it just seemed like, hey, have to try something. But didn't want to do it today, given that I wouldn't be able to tell which actually worked, the uninstall or virus program shutdown. But today, 10:30 - 11:30 came and went, as did a few other hours too, and like I said, so far so good. Oh, haven't tried to plug in my external hard drive just yet, figuring that can wait. Let's just get through this day first and then play with that. And now I'll shut up... LOL :)

Yeah, yeah, just me again... Sigh. Anyway, this time I had Tweetdeck open, and two Chrome tabs, one was streaming video for an hour, close to the end of the show where I was going to shut it down. I got two very quick BS's, and it restarted on its own. It froze midstartup. Tried again, gave me the choice between regular startup and the, Startup Repair utility, I guess. I tried that one, figured might be a good idea, got another BS. That one I could actually see and read, and that was the 1e, all zeroes one. Tried startup again, this time just normal. Got up, started the program to gather the info, and it froze. Another try, and now it froze again. I probably should delete this, but guess I'll leave it but I'll have to try getting the info for you tomorrow morning, because I'm ready to drop right now. But I'll get back to you, hopefully.

On the bright side, that annoying folder that I told you always opened up on startup for no apparent reason? Hasn't happened again yet. So guess that's something.

mmm sorry this isn't going any faster. Can you think back and firgure out if temperatures (inside of your PC ;) ) could have anything to do with it? Does it primarly BS when hot (obviously it is still hot when restarting)?

Well, I can only give you an unscientific answer -- I'm on it now, and it's obiviously cool. But by the time 9 pm rolls around, yeah, it's hot, but it doesn't seem like it's anymore hot than it is a few hours ago, but definitely not like it is right now, only having been on ~ 15 minutes. Guess that doesn't help much.

It's funny, I just got Core Temp, because it was a perfectly timed download of the day from the PC Mag daily newsletter. It's going now. But hopefully you have experience with it -- if the computer freezes, then obviously I'll be able to get the last temp, but if it crashes, will there be a way to get the past info or something? And really, 111 F is a low temp? I know they run warm, but geez...

I'd keep CPU and GPU below 80 degrees Celcius which is about 175 F....
If the rest of the notebook, specifically airflow from the fan(s) is ok... that should not be a problem. GPU-Z has a logger you can turn on.. that way you'll have the latest before a crash.

Well, it looks like I have the log going one the one, although the GPU core clock or Memory clock sure aren't doing anything. Should I be doing something with the validation tab there? And at least outside the computer, ever since my first laptop where I didn't know these things at first, I have had the laptops elevated in a certain way so that there is air moving around and it's not blocked off. Now, inside it, well, that's not my expertise. I know a fair amount about computers, but not enough, hence why I'm here. :)

You don't need to validate. And don't worry bout not seeingthe clocks as long as you see a correct seeming temp, that's all we want for now....

Well, so far, so good, I haven't hit 175 or anything... but I did shut it off midday when I needed a nap due to my allergies - I wanted to be wake to see if something happened or whatever.

But can you point me to a Win Xp version of this site, I have a netbook, which I've been using when I can't use this computer, but now all of a sudden I can't get online there, it keeps stopping at acquiring network address/ waiting for network to be ready. It was working all day, but slowing down at a certain point. So, given that the cable was blacking out for a moment here and there, I figured I just needed to do what I always do, unplug the router for a few seconds, and it'll come back on. And it hasn't. And the help I've been googling so far hasn't helped. So if something happened with this one, I'm down to my pda to get online for help here, and well, rather not. Too small.

Yeah, I'm just one problem after another, aren't I... ugh.

As for the Win7 one over here, I can't give you any new info given that it was a freeze and not a crash, but glutton for punishment that I am, tried watching the streaming video news show that comes on at 8, and ~ 10 minutes after starting it, it froze. So I can tell you that Core #0 Temp was 147 F, Core #1 was 144, and if the Load column is something you need, though I imagine not, 36%/23%. And the other thing only seems to have

GPU Core Clock [MHz] , GPU Memory Clock [MHz] ,

640.0 , 0.0 ,

no matter the time. And I did shut it off for a few minutes before trying the video. And now I'm going to hit my head against the wall, two computers, and basically can't use either of them. Definitely on the verge of a breakdown here shortly. LOL

OV, I've reread the whole thread, I'm still not syre what it is so all I can think of now is some structured troubleshooting. Ofcourse you don't have to repeat stuff we've already done but please go through this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/63072-troubleshooting-7-a.html

And check every point. Please be sure to do the hardware tests advised there (like memtest86)

Good luck!

Hi - I will get to this as soon as I can; right now I'm trying to figure out why my XP netbook will not connect to the internet all of a sudden, and if I don't have that when this goes down or crashes again, then I have no way to getting online. At this point, I'm just so close to throwing all these things against the wall it isn't funny. But like I said, as soon as I can, I'll do it - I printed it out, so I have something, but if I have download something, well, I'll deal with that when I get to it.
