[How to fix] Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820

Hi, since microsoft has no real answer about this issue, I'll share the best way to bypass this error.
Many people will tell you to check in your internet option and blablabla but this is a fix for "Error ID: 0x80048849" and not for the "Error ID: 0x80048820".
Most of the support team don't take care of the two last number this is why there is no solution.
Now Follow the next step there will be the Bypass.
---------
1) Open Live Mail
2) delete the existing account.
3) add new account, and check the "manually configure" option
4) set the connection settings to:
Incoming server name: pop3.live.com
Incoming server port: 995
Outgoing server name: smtp.live.com
Outgoing server port: 25
Requires SSL Yes
Requires outgoing authentication Yes
---------
Now your mail should sync without any error.
If I'm not wrong by now the POP service is enable by default and can't be Disable on Hotmail option but you can allow the program to control your mailbox just like the previous automatic setup was doing.

I wonder if the problem has to do with setting the "Connect with https" option on the web

I've tryed the next solution but it was a fail.
Windows Live Mail Server Error: 0x80048849 and/or 0x80048820
Https has nothing to do with it I tryed with https enable and disable nothing work at all.
If you get the following error there is a simple solution found.

"Unable to send or receive messages for the account. Sorry, we were unable to sign you in to Windows Live ID at this time. Please try again later.

Server Error: 0x80048820
Server: 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820"

To fix this error this is simple go to Hotmail login and go to your account information change the name registered other words it's the display name and remove any special character.
My best bet for now will be to use the old method uninstall windows live mail and set hotmail website as my default mail viewer.

In your first post you said to change the account from http to pop3. (I wasn't aware you could do that with any Hotmail account.) In your second post you said to change the Hotmail address to something without special characters. You also said that you gave up on WLM and decided to use web access. Is that because neither solution worked for you?

Pop3 was working no need to change anything this is a bypass but you can have an issue with outgoing mail in Live mail i was Unable to connect to the SMTP.
The second post is the same error id but not the same issue wich can be solved by changing your display name.
To be clear if your display name has any special caracter you won't be able to connect to your mail box.
I downloaded Thunderbird from mozzila it use Pop3 and it work fine in everyway so this alternative was my best bet to have a mail client.

By "display name" do you mean the part before the @ of the pop3 email address or the name that shows up in the "from" field of the email message when you customize the account? What special character does not work for you (like dash "-", for example)?

Display name is your Nick name used to chat since Live Ess 2011
You should not use any special character in it and I would say never use the "&" it will make you unable to login.
Display name can be changed by the option of hotmail click on Account than you willl see all the information of the account.

Unique ID: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Name: Your Displayname here (Change) <-in this name you can't use any special character.

Registered since:...

Country/region:Canada (Change)

Birth date: (change)

Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Messenger are two completely different "Live" services. You can sign in to one or the other or both with the same LiveID. I don't see what Messenger service has to do with setting up a pop3/smtp email account in the Mail program. It's true that the LiveID, which looks like a Hotmail email address, also can be used as a real Hotmail address of the http type.

In any case it sounds like you are saying that the display name for Messenger shouldn't have "special" characters and the the only character you know for sure is not allowed is "&". You can edit the Messenger Display name: Change display name in Windows Live Messenger 2011 . I also found a tutorial that suggests a way to use special characters in the Messenger Display name but it involves using a 3rd party Live Messenger service: MSN Display Name Tricks | eHow.com .

As you say yes It's related to messenger but you know that your live mail account does login to messenger if you look to the top right corner of the live mail you can see your status online away ect... the error may come from the name over there if it has a special charater, this is why display name is involved in this issue stated in post #3 of this thread.
Also messenger and live mail is 2 different program but they are connected to eachother.
Using 3rd party program for nickname and spécial character is completly use less just like the msn plus that allow you to have a collored name and annoy most of people who can only read this "[132]$[565]H" and the one who use this msn plus see "$H" in a color.
Anyway don't be shy If you have an other question I'll reply.

One of the advantages of using Windows Live Mail (aka WLM, the email client, not the web page) is the contact synchronization. So while you can set up pop/smtp to receive/send mail, respectively, it doesn't help with contact or calendar sync.

That said, I'm currently experiencing this error:
Server Error: 0x80048820
Server: 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820

I wonder if Microsoft has just decided to brake WLM to force us to do some sort of so-called "upgrade". Anyone else having this problem with accessing the DeltaSync server?

After a few days, it looks like the DeltaSync server got rebooted and it's fixed!

windows live mail not accessing hotmail error 0x80048820

I was having this issue for the last month or so (I didn't want to set up a pop3 account). Looks like different options have worked for other people, but none of them seemed to work for me. I experimented on my own and finally got something to work. Figured I'd share my solution if anyone else in the future has this problem.

1.Access "Internet Options" (you can do this through the control panel or under "Tools" in Internet Explorer)
2.Click on the "Advanced" tab and scroll down to the Security settings.
3.Enable SSL (I already had SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 enabled on my machine)
4.Enable TLS (this was the only change i did and it worked. I had the option for TLS 1.0 on my problem machine but enable the others if they are available too)

Hope this is of help to someone.
