Hi. I just recently got mad at my freaking Radeon 4650 that im using as a backup.. So i got enough of the jetplane and dragged it out.. Pretty roughly..

I screwed apart the whole cooler and cleaned the Gpu "cpu" and the cooler..
I took out the fan and dragged the little sticker on the back of it away and got my handy little "can" of silicon oil and poored one drop into the hole behind the sticked. I cleaned the heatsink from dust. and well, that wasnt to hard becouse there was bearly any. I screwed it together and put it in my computer. Feel like im pronouncing everything wrong especially "screwed"
Anyhow. Started the computer and the gpu was silent.. Its a miracle! The gpu has only been through ~2 years of duty and it sounded like a jetplane when it was new. Now its quiet. cool and amazing and.. very laggy compared to my gtx 660 but what are you gonna do when your psu is beeing repaired by some suicidal guys who wants to be shocked to death :P

I hope hanging up your harddrives in rubber-bands for noise reasons isn't too harmful for the drives :S, but eh, rather silence than lasting drives.. :|
I have found the 5w-20 full synthetic motor oil is a good fan oil.
Conventional oils will eventually carbonize from the friction stopping the fan.

The tiny bit of oil you put in the fan bearing has to work a long time with no refreshment like an engine bearing will have.
