I need some help

Ok I have this new sony vaio laptop.I tried to do some updates from the sony website that they had for my laptop.Well I did some updates and now when I log in it says welcome and goes from that screen to a red screen all red and takes a lot longer to get from that screen to the screen that has the desktop screen it takes like 30-40 seconds to do it now where it usually only took 10 seconds maybe not that long before.Can anyone help me?

I would do a system restore from before the updates. Then install one at a time, to find out the culprit. Then, do not install that one if possible

I have done a back up on to a removable disk but I do not know how to get it off of it to restore it on to my laptop.Also when I try to do a system restore it says it can't.

What error does System Restore give?
